[Mk2] [Turbo] Stuck in 5th and dumped gearbox oil

Post by sir chad »

Can anyone help?
My rev2 turbo was cruising at 65mph in 5th gear, I went to change down and the gear lever wouldn't move, I let the clutch up and tried again and managed to force it out.
I Nursed it home using the remaining gears all of which are fine.
It refuses to go into 5th
I've got transmission oil dripping from under the car, looks like it'sprayed everywhere.
What do I have to do to fix this?

Thanks for reading

Sounds like the synchro has gone to me but that doesn't explain the escaping oil. I'd get it to an affiliate to check it out if you're not sure. Could be time for a new box but I hope it's nothing so serious.

5th has shot out the side of the box! Look underneath from the passenger side wheel and you'll see the hole!

Thanks for the replies guys.
I just got a chance to get under it and yes 5th has pushed it's way out of the side of the box.
Can I get a new cover plate for the box and 5th gear assembly or is it new box time?
Timing is impeccable, it's supposed to be in the spray shop on Saturday, I don't know if I should drive it the 2miles to the spray shop, I could pour some oil in the new convenient hole at the top of the box.

The box has an LSD, is it worth trying to save it?
I'm not sure how to move the car as towing it would still make the gears rotate.

Do not drive it, it will pump all the oil out that you have put in.
My son has done this now to 3 gear boxes.

Its easy to fix, take the cover off and you will see the part to replace and Toyota now make the part stronger but you will need another cover.

The box is coming out and going to Bexhill Gearboxes for recon.
I've had this car for nearly 10 years and although it's only done 90k quite a few of those have been on trackdays.
I figure it's worth fixing properly.

You figure correctly. Keep hold of the good ones I say and it's ten years for a reason.....
