[Mk2] [Turbo] Brake pads.

Post by adam maclean »

I do appreciate that this has been extensively covered and have done a lot of searches. The thing is, the results are good, but a few years out of date.

I'm looking to replace pads and lines (my stock disks have plenty of life yet). I'm drawn to either Yellow or Red stuff front and Hel braided lines. Obviously with a 5.1 fluid change. I'm after an up to date opinion of these please.

For the rears I'm sticking stock. Seen these on Camskill:

Besides the price, would I see much of a difference between the 2?

Afraid I'm on a budget at the moment, Tax is also looming and these need to be changed badly. So please can you help me out.

Out of the 2 i'd have redstuff. Currently have yellow on the front of mine and i don't think they are as good as reds.

People will probably come on saying get carbotechs but for lower budget the redstuff are good :thumleft:

In what way do you find them better?

I would keep clear of anything EBC, never had anything but big problems with them. They just burn up and warp the disks.

Porterfield R4 are the way to go, you would not belive how good they are.

I found the red stuff had better initial bite, the yellows seemed spongey when cold or hot. And it wasn't due to needing the brakes bled.

Granted they are dusty and won't last as long as some others on grooved discs, but for fast road driving they are fine for lower budget.

How much are a set of porterfields bob?

Now that may just be the problem, they are not cheap but are worth every pound...............around £300 for front and rear sets and will last years.

My son has been trying every pad you can think of but after driving my car he now understands what good brakes are.
