[Mk2] [Turbo] Hesitancy issues.

Post by adam maclean »

Had a shed load of issues recently. Basically the car doesn't run like it used to. I recently changed the timing belt (twice, the belt skipped a tooth ). Once that was changed the car felt OK, but a little hesitant. Changed the dizzy and rotar arm (Leads are a year old, plugs are only a few months old.) reset the ecu. felt better, but still not like it used to be. I can't find any leaks either.

The problem is not always, consistent. It runs OK and reaches full boost (1.0 bar) and will hold it. But it'll only do this if I ease the throttle down. There is also a slight stuttering and then it'll spike to a bar then take off. It often feels very laggy until a bar. The problem has been much better at night when the air is colder/denser. If I plant my foot or accelerate very sharply it'll bog down, the boost on the dash will rise, proper gauge will rise slowly. I also notice that it feels more alert in 2nd and 3rd. If I but my foot down in 4th and 5th it really bogs down. Where as before it was much sharper taking off.

I don't think its the cam timing as it feels nothing like it did when the belt skipped. Was only a tooth out when I redid it.

I have done a search and some of the problems are consistent with the ignition timing being out. But can't understand why it would surface now. Any more questions please ask. I appreciate it is hard to grasp what it feels like with out driving and feeling the issues. ](*,)

After more searching I'm starting to think its the knock sensor. But not sure how I'd change it.

have you checked your timing with a timing light??

Also sounds silly but what sort or condition is your alternator in? When mine was on its way out I would get hesitation / bogging down when I went to boot it from a stand still but since the new alternator its all sorted.
