[Mk2] [Turbo] Can anyone identify my differential?

Post by Olly P »

After a gearbox replacement on my Rev2 tubby, I had the existing LSD removed from the old broken gearbox.

The diff was very aggressive with heavy shuddering when accelerating whilst turning and often locked up the inside wheel so I know it's not a stock diff.

Matt at Rogue said it felt like a TRD 1.5way diff when he drove my tubby on the old gearbox.

However, the casing looks standard and there are no branding marks on it (which I believe is normally the case anyway).

Not trying to thread hijack but thought I would add these pics to help out.

From a Rev 4 box, dont believe its stock as the box looks like it has been opened before.

If anyone has any pics of a diff. that they know is 100% stock then post them up so we can compare. :thumleft:

Hmm, no yours definitely doesn't look stock.

Here's some guy in Germany selling one that looks identical to mine (and claiming it's stock) for £1000!

Maybe mine has the original casing but different internals because it definitely didn't drive like a stock diff.

bit of a hijack here guys...I am trying to split my gearbox from the bell housing to remove the diff....which , through the gap, looks like yours Olly...but I can't quite pull the 2 apart. There is about an inch gap between the 2 parts at the mo...what else should I undo to split them? obv I have undone and removed all the bolts from the bell housing inside and out.

what makes you think that yours isn't stock Olly...I am trying to split my box and remove mine , which looks like yours through the gap,...the box has deffo been split open before as I can see red gasket sealant on it.

Just because of how it behaved when it was in the car. Really agressive, shuddering when cold, locking the inside wheel. Matt at Rogue Motorsport also remarked that it didn't handle like a stock diff.
