Classic & Sports Car Photoshoot

Post by jimi »

I got invited to bring my car down to Curborough Sprint Track by Classic & Sports Car magazine for a photoshoot for an article they are doing on mid engined sports cars. :D
There were 4 pairs of cars:-
MR2 MK1
Fiat X1-9
Porsche 914
Porsche Boxter
Lotus Elise
Lotus Europa
Ferrari 308 GTB
Maserati Merak
The shoot consisted of group shots of all of the cars, then shots of each pairing together, plus a few single-car action and detail shots. The majority was done at the circuit itself, the deputy editor drove each car on the circuit and went out on the road with the owners.
They then picked their 4 favourite cars for some final shots, their favourites were:-
the Ferrari, Europa, Boxster and ...................... the MK1 \:D/
It was a great day out , weather was good, the cars were ace and owners were spot on, well worth the journey down :th:
The article will be the September issue, out on the first Thursday of August and I believe it's a 12 page spread and on the cover :)
Here's a few shots I took

I am really looking forward to that article!

My dad had a Europa (original in JPS colours, not that colour which is not my taste at all) and he was told that the MK1 was a modern day Europa!

He loved my car so much it convinced him that other cars were as much fun to drive so he sold the Europa and ended up with the NSX. I loved driving the Europa but scared myself silly the only time I have driven the NSX so far. Think I will stick to the MK1 which I have lots of fun in.

And he used to have a Ferrari (although not the 308)

And my Aunt has a boxster.

Clean sweep in my family! \:D/

Just so you know the guy with the Elise 111s can't drive for toffee. Mark was stuck behind him for around 45minutes last night driving like a snail. He wasn't happy.

He left early, didn't seem impressed that the Elise didn't get picked for the final 4, he was saying he used to compete at Cudborough years ago.

Cheers peeps :thumleft:

The X1-9 was a Grand Finale and mint, it was touch and go whether he picked the X1-9 or the MK1.
I can understand his dilemma, many years ago I had an early X1-9 (the 1300 with the quarter bumpers) and both cars are very similar in most respects, personally I think the MK1 edges it slightly on looks :)

Twas a bit random, that the day Mark came home, he spent about half an hour complaining about this Elise driver and lo and behold his car is in this thread. Random indeed.

Lovely pics/cars

this was my Europa until last year when I sold it... awesome cars.. they are like the mk1 only more extreme (lower, lighter, even more go-karty)

sorely missed...

:thumleft: nice, I test drove and nearly bought one back in the late 70's, didn't buy it because it "only" had the Renault engine ........... what a plonker, I've kicked myself ever since.
Small aside to that is back in 1969 a friend took me to a showroom in Glasgow and they had a brand new Europa kit lying spread out on the floor (like a model before it was assembled)
They were originally available in kit form as well as fully built, the company would assembly the majority of the car and you went in a and fitted a few parts so you could claim it was self built thereby avoiding the Purchase Tax that was levied on new cars.
I wanted one from the moment I saw the kit lying spread out on the floor. :D
