True or Not

Post by StevenstonWullie »

been phoning round various places for quotes on getting cambelt, tensioners including hydraulic one and waterpump changed on my rev3 tubby anyway got a quote from toyota 8hrs labour all in including parts 589 quid but he said must warn you crankshaft are prone to cracking while doing the change so i may incur additional charges doesnt sound right? Hmmm got to love toyota ( Arnold Clarke)...

lol, so they can cope with being spun round at several thousand rpm but changing a cambelt can stress them enough to cause them to crack? not heard that one before!

unless they meant the pulley itself rather than the crank? that would seem more likely (but if a garage cannot tell the difference between a crank and a pulley i would be going elsewhere tbh)

i cracked my crank pully when i took it off... but i removed it with a very big hammer :thumleft:

i would have though toyota would have a special tool for taking the pully off... reading through the workshop manual for the mr2 they have a special service tool for every other job!! lol

saying that the tools they have are only as good as they guys using them... if your unlucky and get sum muppet swinging the spanners it may end up costing you more money... must be the only place you have to pay them MORE money if they do a cr@p job.

Rant over

I got mine changed by Peter at Sbits, was around the 210ish mark. Made more sense as

a) I knew he'd do a great job
b) it was a trip away for a day rather than sitting at home praying the mechanic didn't break anything

They must meed Crank Pulley. They're Cast Iron and are brittle. They can crack the outer edges when being pulled off. I had this happen the first time I had cambelt done. They used to run about £80 for a new pulley.
