Removing seats...

How easy or hard is it ?

And what are the minimum amount of tools required ( as i've got sod all ) .

got some decent cloth to replace my tired ripped leather ones until they get refurbed...

Simple. Four bolts, off a 14mm socket, though an extension bar helps for the rear bolts. Its dead simple, have removed the seats from mine several times. Its sometimes easier to put the back of the chair forward to get it out too.

While the seats are out, also double check the 10mm bolt holding on the handles for the boot release and fuel cap release, give it a quick tighten They do come loose easily.

sometimes they are slightly awkward to get out of the car and i've dropped the rails on the arch before

Not if you release the back and pull the headrests forward. Got ot make sure you can open the door properly too. Never had a problem getting mine out, either MK1a or MK1b seats.

Sorry to hijack this but im planning on taking my own seats out to replace them with some black leather ones.

I need to goto south wales to collect them, all I have is my MR2 for the job. So my plan was to take out the passenger seat, drive down and pick them up. I wondered if I could fit them both in? If i put one where the seat would be and put the other one in upside down, it should fit together like a puzzle?

Do you think this would work?

I wouldn't fit the seats until you got home, might be easier to lay them down and fit them in that way, bear in mind you need to be able to see out of mirrors etc. If you are laying the seats int he car, do bear in mind the floor is not flat, it has ridges in it, particularly for the fitting of the front bolts of the seat. So you might want some padding to avoid marking the seats.

Just a quick tip.

It might be worth getting under the car with a wire brush and some penetrating spray. The rear inner bolts go through the floor into a captive nut welded underneath. I managed to shear off a nut when taking my seats out and finished up having to saw through the bolt. A handle that fits on one end of a hacksaw blade and a pair of molegrips came in handy!!

Brilliant thanks for the help and tips. Will take a few dustsheets to wrap them up. Wont be fitting them till im home. The drivers one needs some stitching so that will be done first.
