mr2 super edition

Post by rico1979 »

Hi all

does anyone have any info on the above, when i purchased my mr2 it had super edition down the rear wing on the bump strip where it normally has twin turbo etc.

i found a small amount of info on them through someone selling on ebay, it said apparently 1 of only 250 made, hand built by yamaha as a favour to toyota, had uprated brakes and suspension, i also found out this is somewhat true when comming to have a scratch touched up, the colour code matched that of a yamaha motorbike :-k

car was two-tone with gun metal grey body and silver/grey bumpers and wing mirrors

any help or onfo would be great

Im no guru by any means.

Mk1's had a Super Edition, but as for extras IIRC was decals, and a Momo wheel/gearknob.

Mk2's, which i think your talking about, i've never heard of it, or seen one, in 12 years of MR2 ownership/owners clubs/shows/ etc.

Sorry to say, but I dont think its kosher. But hey, you never know, but im not staking much on it!

taken from wiki -

In January 1989 Toyota produced a final run of fully optioned "Super Edition" MR2s.[8] The 'Super Edition' included all the extras of the G-Limited models along with extra features such as a MOMO-commissioned steering wheel and gear knob, Recaro "Milano" seats with matching door panels, and unique decals ("SUPER EDITION" on the rear visor and side stripes). Super Edition cars were sold in special Midnight Blue or white/gold two-tone paint; 270 were produced in each color.[9]

The following decal was listed in the Toyota EPC as being available between April and June 1991.

If anyone doesn't believe me the part number is 75985-17030. :thumleft:

Unfortunately, I can't glean any information about what came with the Super Edition cars, although it would appear that part of the criteria is that they were T-bars.

Interesting topic, my recent ebay gamble is a grey rev2 with silver bumpers and mirrors. (tho' I grant that could be crappy colour matching lol) It seems fully loaded too...electric retracting mirrors, cruise control, climate control, steering fogs, t-bar. Only thing it is missing is leather.
It also has uprated suspension but what kind, we dont know.

Have never heard of a mk2 super edition though. :-k Would be nice to think it was a little special.

Well, for the second time in a couple of days i may have embarrased myself!

Good job i put the little caveat at the end to at least retain some shred of dignity!

thanks for reply guys, no point me putting up pics as the garage i was using to do the paint work could not match the colour of the bumpers etc even tho we had the yamaha colour code so i had to have it all colour coded, strange thing is tho i have the full leather, steering fogs, aircon, uprated suspension but no momo wheel or gear lever :-k
