[Mk2] [NA] Failed stereo and replacement issue mk2 rev 5 N/A UK

Hi all,

Ill keep this simple...my stereo...non standard toyota has stopped working. It does look like its faulty itself. However i tried to replace it with my working one from my other car. Although the power led flashes..the one behind the snatch plate. The unit itself will not power up in any fashion. Although when i pressed the cd eject button this could be heard. I metered the wiring and i do have the 12volts their. Now im not a mechanic or have any real skills in car maintainance at all. Fitting the stereo is about as far as it goes.

So any ideas?

Have you checked both lives ? Permanent and switched if one isnt working check the fuses also check the earth, better still take a wire from the back of the stereo to the metal of the dash as an extra earth.

Well it looks like its one of 2 things...The connector block connectors had slightly spread so these were squeezed back together. I tested the stereo on a pc power supply and it powered up fine. Got it home and i had power although after leaving the car a few days the 12v has dropped low. Then after a few mintutes the car wouldnt start. So looks like i have a battery issue to. But this wasnt the issue as i was driving the other day and it wouldnt work. So it looks like dodgy connectors are to blame.
