[Mk2] [NA] Last legs, Rev 3 N/A T Bar 166k miles

Have had my 2 for 7 years and the last 6 MOT's it has always had a problem getting through the emission test, last year it got a new Lambda, Cat and exhaust section and it passed.
10k miles later it has failed again, the guy at the garage gave me an additive to put in the petrol and is letting me put it back in after the additive is through the car to check the emissions before I do the rest of the work needed.
I am going to do an oil and filter change, any other tips to get it through would be appreciated.
I have become attached to the car and don't want to see it scrapped, but don't want to have to shell out a couple of hundred pound every year on a cat and lambda.

Would love to but by the time I pay the fuel and test I'd be as cheap buying a new cat.
