Mk2's becoming rarer?

Post by dawolf »

It's been a year since I sold my rev 3 turbo but I still admire them now. I remember when I owned it I didn't see many others on the road, maybe 1-2 a week at most. Nowadays I probably see even less and it doesn't just go for the turbo but the N/A aswell. I really think that tidy mk2 turbo's are going to be a potential classic in the not too distant future. Maybe I should have just kept mine in a garage. Lol. I've looked on auto trader and there are only 5 turbo's for sale within 100 miles. Anyone else find them becoming rare? Do people think prices will go up in the future or will they just continue to be steady?

They stopped making them.

People crash or break them.

Some get exported.

Less are getting imported.

Yeah, they are getting rarer I suppose :)

yeppo, ARGH it nearly makes me physically SICK when i see a dirty chav driving one. You know its only a matter of time before:

Timothy or "B dogg" as hes known "on tha streets" says to his little friends:

"yeah bruv look at me drift dis corner for real brrrap"

-tries-
-fails-
-makes contact with lamp post/tree/ditch/bus shelter-

and then we have one less :(

..... or something like that :oldtongue:

LOL at lemonyfresh post

Yea I know, I’m just trying to think….I reckon I’ve seen no more than about 10 MR2’s in the 3 years of ownership it’s kind of sad really, there is 2 that circle around were I work, as I often see them parked up, “none chav owned” 8) just regular guys like me and you, but out and about I very rarely see any, yet I see a lot of Mrk3 “which insodently never flash or toot” :( perhaps It's my aftershave that puts them off I duno :? so I don’t tend to beep at them anymore.

Its like the Cossie's as well

Not alot on the road (rust buckets) but well engineered engines.

People break them for spares and the YB engines end up in the Focus shells which would be most likely

Maybe soon the 3sgte engines will be a common thing for the corolla engine swap?

Less is more, its simple economics.

Charvers crash them, numbers dwindle.

Supply drops, competition for existing cars increases, price rises \:D/

I'm in the South East.

If I do a 40mile search on auto trader you will get about 5 mk2's

Do the same for a porsche boxter you will get 50+

Well maintained original examples may gain classic status one day. Not sure about the Kev'ed up cars.

LOL only time ill get rid of my 2 is if the gf tells me she’s up the trumpet. #-o

Likewise in hoping on getting money back, but I doubt I will, i've spent to much on it now  but I’m not to fussed as I didn’t buy the car to make money it was a hobby / dream to have a sports car and have a little fun in it before me and the gf settled down 8) , regards to old cars...well folk these days are after more eco friendly machines and the smaller the better seems to be the latest fad which is a shame ](*,) it will be a sad day when I sell the 2 .... hmmm  most likely to some 17 year old white trainer / shell suit wearing chav.

Talking of the prices I very nearly got my money back on the rev 3 turbo. Bought it for £2650 (knocked down from £3000) and sold for £2500 about 18 months later. I spent a small amount on tarting up the paintwork but I put a good 18k miles on it in that time. Was a nice example and with more time to sell I could've made a small profit on it but had a set date to pick up the new one.

Plenty about in london, oddly the more scrappy/chavy ones seem to be driven by men in their 40s/50s

Although to be honest mine isnt looking too pretty at the moment :(

I think that's always been the case, where I used to live (small town, 10,000 people) there were 3 imports. All were auto g-limited spec owned by middle aged women. All rev2 as well.
