Bonnets, boots, doors, t bars.

15lbs to 8lbs is still a decent weight saving and I suspect thats a pretty heavy panel - they can be made lighter, just depends on if its for show or performance. Lighter panels result in better performance and handling.

What ever happened with the FRP/Kevlar parts?

one of the companies that sponsor on two brutal are looking at making the t-bar panels (and may already be able to make them for you....there were suggestions for doors aswell. Problem for me is retaining road worthiness as I would want to drive to and from the track in it. I don't know the ins-and-outs so it may not actually be a problem, but I'd like to know first - oh and it won't be cheap.

The deal went boobs, luckily I got out with my money and just a bunch of damaged car panels - ho um, could have been worse!

Things to consider if your running FRP doors is side protection - personally I would want door bars fitted as whilst the stock steel doors wont offer much protection in a side strike, FRP will offer even less. Also think about your windows as if you want to retain the windup mech's you need to make sure the FRP door will take it.

I am going to fit FRP doors shortly to mine, but will first be adding door bars to my cage and also running plastic windows (pointless fitting FRP doors to add weight by refiitting the glass and winders!)

Yep, those were my thoughts exactly......I design this sort of stuff at work, and there I can engineer its strength and know exactly whats going to happen, but here, I don't know sheet about what materials, build processes and engineering went into these components. Components that may be called upon to save my life one day. So I totally agree about the SIPS.

However, will SIPS obviate the weight savings that composites bring?

I reckon the polycarb windows would be a very useful weight saving. How do you plan to make a decent seal with the body rubber seals?

ill take a photo of mine tomorrow for you. i had a passenger side one. requires a lot of fettling and cutting pieces out. also some tabs are not there which are on the steel ones. if its a track day car it'll do, but i wasnt happy with it.

Fittment was fine, it required the mounting holes to be drilled but they're well marked.

Cassi had no trouble getting it to fit. :thumleft:

Once fitted you can't tell which is stock and which is fibreglass. 8)

Doesn't sit too high at any end.

The mounting holes at the headlight end did need ovalling a bit to allow for adjustment but other wise no probs.

The other wing needs replacing on Cass' car and we'll get a FG one for that too.

Yeah if you could take a piccy that would be great, no rush though it's on the cards for the summer atm! Just thinking of ways to bring the price of what I need doing to it down. Best way would be to do it all myself idealy, but with no experience messing with bodywork fitting I might make a horrible mess... but it means the bits of rust that I want to grind out and weld up I'll be happy knowing its been done properly if not completely good to look at, then again it's nothing you really notice getting in and out the car :)
need to find out if the bodyshop I got a quote from will let me come in and do the welding myself as he did say he's no good at it!

Mine did this also! Not that hard to fix though, just take some material off the mould where the bolt fits through. I also removed the foam strip that fits underneath the wing where it bolts along the edge of the bonnet line. This helped to get it down by a few mm also.

The Honeybourne wings do fit well but you need to play around with them and not expect them to just plonk straight on like I imagine OEM one would.

Agreed but for the non rusting properties and the price versus a steel wing i'd rather have to do a wee bit of faffage :thumleft:
