Wanted 1994 mk2 original radio connector block

Just tried to fit a radio to the above and found some idiot has cut the block from the loom .....does anyone have one spare please??

Are you fitting an original or aftermarket radio?

Unless you're putting an original in there I would wire in an ISO plug instead.

If not, do you know what kind of stereo it had? Active or passive (or premium) etc? Plugs are all different

Hi toxo ... I bought the iso plug but when it came to fitting some muppet had chopped the toyota block off the loom ...am new to MR2's so not sure which system it has ...can you advise how I can tell please???

Sure, no worries. Easiest way to tell is whether you have subwoofers behind the seats in the cubby boxes. If you fold the seats forward you'll be able to see if the cubby boxes behind them have speaker grills on or not.

Another giveaway is whether your windscreen has two thin vertical black lines running down the middle of it.

Not sure what you mean by cubby boxes?...I do know there are two speaker grilles behind the seats in each corner....sorry guys ...MR2's are really new to me

That is the best idea,but if you have no joy with sourcing one let me know & i will see if i can help with giving you a run throo of my wiring & were they go (speakers,sub n so on)

Um behind each seat on the floor there's a storage box that the top lifts up on... Except if you have the premium/active stereo then they aren't storage boxes they are speakers.

That any better? You'll need to check both sides as there's a 'premium' and 'active' system and one has subs both sides, 1 only has a sub on 1 side.

Hi Toxo ..... it has subs both sides soooo which do I have please?

You have the premium one.. I guess the grills on the subs say something like "Toyota Super Live Sound System" on them or similar.

That means you can't convert straight to ISO. The car has built in amplifiers and these require line level outputs so whatever stereo you fit has to have phono pre-outs on it. Or in laymans terms, the speaker wiring doesn't go to where the stereo is, so you can't just connect the stereo up to the wires there to connect straight to the speakers.

If you still had the original plug you would need one of these:



As you can see it converts from a single Toyota plug, to a single ISO plug (just power & electric aerial, not the 2nd ISO plug which is for speakers) and 2 pairs of phono plugs.

It's doable (providing your stereo has phono/RCA pre-outs) but it's a right pain!

Thanks for that ...looks like he has only chopped the stereo block off.... the phono plugs are still there.

I have a JVC head unit that has phono plugs (line in ,line out and sub woofers) on it so I think I am right in thinking I only need the original bock....does this sound right ?? and thanks very much for all your input

That sounds slightly confusing , as it wouldn't have phono connectors as standard - they are part of the ISO conversion lead.

It does sound like a humungous mess so far!
