[Mk2] [Turbo] Rear anti-roll bar removed

Post by joola89 »

Just had a set of Tein Super Street dampers installed all around. The technician told me the install went smoothly. No drama, everything solid. Although the old Billy's are shockingly' bad! (Excuse the pun).

Anyways, he did question me about the rear anti-roll bar. It didn't have one.

????

I know the benefits of having none on a drag strip, but everyday driving?

Pro's and Con's?

What can i do with the old bilsteins? Front shocks are shot, rears.... well better than the fronts. I do love a good old import.... these crazy japs know something will don't? I'm still finding hidden mods.

I ain't know mechanical engineer, but how would there be benefits of having an ARB for driving in a straight line?
Surely ALL of the benefits of an ARB is for going around corners? (like what we do in everyday driving) 8-[

I think he's saying there are benefits to not having one for straight line speed...?

I know the benefits of having none on a drag strip, but everyday driving?

But yeh- can't see how it makes any difference either way, other than maybe a little bit of weight loss?

I see, I thought it was a typo for 'one' #-o

Hey- you might be right mate, hadn't thought of that!

Still can't see why it would make a difference to straight line speed though :-k

Apart from the very minor weight saving lol, there aren't any pros that I can think of.....

As for cons, the car will lean more in corners (perhaps offset by the stiffer springs slightly) and have a tendancy towards understeer.

Personally I'd invest in some TRD uprated ARB's :thumleft:

By not having a rear arb, the car will swat lower and faster during acceleration? So i have been told. But then again... i spend more time on the track rather than on the strip.

Hmmm, no. As the name suggests, they resist roll, more over body roll. Squat on acceleration is due to the stiffness of the rear springs.
