What is this sensor???

Post by DavesMr2turbo »

Hi all

I am changing over my blown CT26 to a CT20b turbo.

On Connecting the water return pipes i noticed that the white sensor below is loose. the nuts is well tight in there but the white plug bit can pull in and out and its pretty loose.

Could i just push the sensor back in or will it leak coolant? Also what sensor is it??

This is bit of my blown turbo not only the manifold blowing so was the turbo to the manifold and blowing at the downpipe lol. show u the tubby pic lol

Nothing will leak but it will be harder to start from cold. Mine has broken and I need to to turn the engine over twice to get it to start in the morning.

Easy (and cheap) way to connect one of the wires to a switch that toggles between 40k and 80k Ohms. Switch it to 40k when cold and 80k when warm. The other wire goes to ground (I think - I haven't tried this out yet!)

Bit of a hassle I know but I couldn't find a second hand switch anywhere!

The sensor in the red box is the cold start switch and if the top is loose then it's fecked and you need a new one. It will be rotten inside, like this:

Image

You can't 'push it back in' because it's not a push in sensor, it's a screw in one. If the plastic bit's loose the internals aren't attached properly anymore.

The sensor to the right of the red box is the ECU temp sender, it has a yellow plastic connector.

The sensor above the red box (large round one, single spade connector on it) is the oil pressure switch.

Edited cause I got it wrong

Actually I might have that wrong - mine's a rev3... 2 secs and I'll double check.

Yeah I did have it the wrong way round, whoops!! Sorry about that. Edited now to correct.

You will lose a tiny bit of coolant when you swap the ECU temp sender but not very much and the next time you run the car to warm it will bleed out to the cap so you can just top it up once its cold

the ecu will not be able to work out engine temp so wont know what fueling to add for cold start ,possible rough idle from cold for couple of minutes & maybe a little difficult to start ie take a few cranks
