Advice on if I need to space these wheels please

Post by MrSix »

I bought some wheels for the MR2 which are 17" 7.5J and 45 offset (front and rear). I want to fit 215/40/17 front tyres and 235/40/17 rear however when calculating the difference over the standard wheels it appears that:

Your proposed front wheel will be 16 mm tucked in from flush (flush offset: 29).
Your proposed front is 2 mm from possibly touching the front suspension.
Your proposed rear wheel will be 28.7 mm tucked in from flush (flush offset: 16.3).

I'm presuming it's not a good idea to have the rear wheels sitting further in than the fronts, so would it be advisable for me to run 15mm rear spacers?

Also, is 2mm from possibly touching the front suspension a little bit too close for comfort, or will I be ok?

Looking to buy tyres for these ASAP so please help if you can :)

For those wheels to look right you would need 10-15mm spacers on the front and 20-25mm on the rear.

thought as much - that'll teach me to buy wheels without checking the offsets.

Ah well I guess I'll keep rolling on the stock 15's then...even though finding tyres for them is near impossible!

As i said on OCUK (cee-s-dee here \:D/ ) your gonna need some big spacers to get them fitting right. Try and get shot mate and get some good fitting wheels :thumleft:

The fronts will stick out 18mm more than stock (1.5" or roughly 25mm wider, half each side, with the centre of the wheel in the same position to the hub as factory as they share the same offset of 45) so will be much closer to flushness than standard. Since the standard stagger is 1" a rear spacer of half of that (about 12/13mm) will replicate the look of the oem stagger and mean the rears will likewise stick out 18mm more than factory.
I reckon they'd look OK tucked in just over 1/2".
