N/A decatting - yay or nay?

Post by cdti »

Is there any performance gain when decatting a N/A (with aftermarket backbox), i assumed there wouldnt be due to the loss of backpressure, does anyone have a definitive answer? Dyno prinouts welcome...

Cant give the definitive answer but I done mine a few years back and apart from a slight change in engine noise it made feck all difference, certainly not worth the price of the decat and time it took to fit. IMO and speaking from experience dont bother with it unless its part of a full system. Even then gains on N/A's are minimal.

When your cats knackered, and toyota try to mug you of the best part of 600 quid for a replacement, have it done then. :D

You might lose some power low down due to less back pressure, but you might gain a bit at the higher revs as it has less restriction geting the exhaust gasses out.

Gets flames on mine and sounds louder. Thats it!

As said above, only do it if you can DIY a pipe in or it comes as part of a full system like mine did.

the sound was improved (personal opinion) and the throtle responce was sharper (personal opinion) but i dont feel i have gained any noticable bhp when i installed mine.

but then this is an na mr2 and theyre pretty well factory tuned already
