Countach LP500QV 25th anniversary 'H2 HOT'

Post by waelwulfas »

Followed this onto A130 south from Howe Green, now usually you think 'Mmm love to see that go etc....' but they always slot into the inside lane and cruise at 50.
Not today, full throttle and off it goes like a demented banshee (but no whistles :D ), awesome noise, like standing behind Concorde, you can feel the road vibrate. Tonight I'm putting my 2 back together, now that I've picked up all the bolts. I know it was doing a lot more than 120

Me neither, seen a few over the years parked in the paddocks at race meetings. I've seen a few motors open the throttle over the years and there's Jap stuff out there that would take off quicker; but the presence is incredible. As this guy went down the carriageway everyone moved over, I'm talking cars 1/2 mile ahead... not like your average fast car when you wait for people to clock you and move over, perhaps they could hear him coming  .
Strange day, passed an XJ220 going the other way an hour earlier; there's some money in Essex and it ain't in my bank!

I had a little fun with a Diablo a while back in my last tubby. Came across it at some lights on Xmas day. Purple, No. plate read DIABLO (rich git).

Sounded awesome. Like you said Concorde or something!! He launched it at the lights and I tried keeping up only cos I wanted to have a longer look at this thing. He'd already seen me looking at it at the lights and had a smile on his face.

Spoke to him at the next set of lights and he commented how nice the 2 was and he was considering one as a day2day car!

That's the fastest one. Top speed varied considerably as each engine was handbuilt and set up. Lamborghini testers hit genuine 190's at Nardo test track. There's quicker stuff out there but this came out in 1989! Also it don't stop accelerating till it hit's the top. If you tried to seriously race it you'd run out of gears, and they don't suffer from turbo heat, so can keep going all day. Ferrucio Lamborghini never built these to race, they were intended for those Clarkson style epics across Europe in a day and two fingers to Enzo Ferrari . Consistently polled as the worlds most outrageous production car.

F150 lightening Truck!!! Awesome. And they pull like a mofo!!!

Yeah if you look back at all these cars. None of them are really that fast by todays standards. Things have moved on a bit since those days.

The shelby 'stang does 60mph in about 6-6.5 secs!!! But you gotta love the sound!!!

Dale, I wouldn't have been able to pass the Diablo. That thing was monstrous!! I doubt he was going full throttle.

Tell me about it! I wondered what the feck was going on when one of those was still glued to my back bumper on the way home from work about a year ago (before I'd turned the wick up).

Had to do a search on the tinternet to find out what it was. 300+ horses from a supercharged V6.

I just saw one (briefly) yesterday going past the other way. It was a red one. I was in my diesel burner at the time and managed to quickly roll the window down to get the sound. And what a sound they make.

absolutely intoxicating noise i reckon. I seen two, and recognise them pretty quick - i used to have the poster on the wall!!

The Countach specs might not seem that impressive by todays standards but remember the last one built was in 89 (16 years ago!) and it still has a presence unequalled except perhaps by the F40 which is my favourite.

on the other hand below are the specs for a 1996 Diablo and remember they only got better from this one up until 2000. U would not be competing with this.

1996 Lamborghini Diablo SV
price $229 900 USD
engine V12
valvetrain DOHC 4 Valves / Cyl
displacement 5707 cc / 348.3 cu in
bore 87.0 mm / 3.43 in
stroke 80.0 mm / 3.15 in
compression 10.0:1
power 380.3 kw / 510.0 bhp @ 7100 rpm
hp per litre 89.36 bhp per litre
torque 580.0 nm / 427.8 ft lbs @ 5900 rpm
drive wheels Mid Engine / RWD
body / frame Composite, Aluminum & Steel
front brakes Brembro Vented Discs
weight 1576 kg / 3474 lbs
wheelbase 2650 mm / 104.3 in
length 4470 mm / 176.0 in
width 2040 mm / 80.3 in
height 1115 mm / 43.9 in
transmission 5-Speed Manual
gear ratios 2.31:1, 1.52:1, 1.12:1, 0.88:1, 0.68:1
final drive 2.41:1
top speed 328.3 kph / 204.0 mph
0 - 60 mph 3.8 seconds

I'd still have the F40 or the little know GTO turbo over this though.

Ferrari F40
price $415 000 usd
engine Twin Turbo V8
valvetrain DOHC 4 Valves / Cyl
displacement 2936 cc / 179.2 cu in
bore 82.0 mm / 3.23 in
stroke 69.5 mm / 2.74 in
compression 7.8:1
power 356.5 kw / 478 bhp @ 7000 rpm
hp per litre 162.81 bhp per litre
bhp/weight 398.33 bhp per tonne
torque 576.2 nm / 425.0 ft lbs @ 4500 rpm
redline 7750 rpm
drive wheels Mid Engine / RWD
body / frame Composite & Tubular Steel
weight 1200 kg / 2646 lbs
wheelbase 2450 mm / 96.5 in
transmission 5-Speed Manual
gear ratios 2.77:1, 1.71:1, 1.23:1, 0.96:1, 0.77:1
final drive 2.90:1
top speed 324 kph / 201.3 mph
0 - 60 mph 3.8 seconds
0 - 100 mph 8.0 seconds
0 - 1/4 mile 11.8 seconds
epa city/hwy 12 / 17 mpg

Power to weight on this car is obscene!!!

cheers

Ahh the 288 GTO, worth selling a kidney or two for. By the by Ferrari sold a performance kit for the F40, bigger turbos and 678bhp

678 upgrade....that would be obscene in an f40 :)

Tbh mate if I won the lottery all I'd need would be the f40 i'd give the rest to charity or something !
