[Mk2] [Turbo] Error codes 22, 24 and 34

Post by wazza2 »

Can any one tell me wot these error codes are. I haven't checked the ecu recently but did today and all these were stored.

I think code 22 is something to do with the water temperature sensor signal but not 100% on this one.

Code 24 is due to the airbox sensor either disconnected or faulty.

Code 34 is when you hit fuel cut due to overboost.

As these are old codes it's best to clear them, go for a drive and check for codes again.

that link says that 22 4/22 is Water leak indicator
and 24 is 8/24 Inhalation temperature indicator.

Any idea wot these mean?

22 I'm not too sure about, never come across that code before but I'm sure someone will be along to explain that one in more detail.

24 - There is a sensor mounted in the side of the airbox which measures the intake air temperature. If this sensor is broken or disconnected it will throw up a code 24 as it can no longer measure the temperature.

the airbox has been removed from my car for the best part of 3 years and this is the first time i have seen this.

Also, just on a separate note, refitted my std recirce valve, and the car feels so much smoother and responsive

The original airbox had a hole in the side with a rubber grommet in it that the sensor pushed into. The air box sensor is exactly the same one as the engine bay temp sensor that's secured to the under side of the engine cover.

Most after market induction kits will have a hole in the tubing somewhere to accept the air box sensor but some don't. In the case they don't most people secure the sensor in the engine bay somewhere near the air filter or just leave it dangling.

Depending on what induction kit/air filter you have your sensor will either be plugged into the induction pipe work somewhere or just dangling in the engine bay. If you've never seen this code before the chances as the sensor had either become unplugged or is now broken.

First thing to do is locate the sensor. When I finish work this afternoon I'll take some pictures of mine if you haven't located it before then :thumleft:

Leave the standard recirc valve on. You're not supposed to run vta bovs on rev2's as it makes them run bad.

Error code 22:

System: Water Temp. Sensor Signal

Diagnosis: Open or short circuit in water temp. sensor signal (THW)

Trouble Area: Water temp. sensor circuit, water temp. sensor, ECU

My money would be on your ECU water temp sensor being bu88ered, took mine off my car recently and it was rotten all the way through. Does your car stutter around 2500rpm when cold?
