Just to let everyone know that my MR2 is the sunroof version, and the T-Bars have an extra strengthening panel inside the sill.

Hello everyone, just been looking at the sill's at the rear of me 2, (she failed her MOT last month on these areas) and after a closer look found that the inner sill have also corroded to a degree of me being able to put my finger through it with little pressure.
To say I was gutted would be a big understatement, getting a bit depressed about her know! as she's had a lot of work and parts sorted on her, here's a list:

• New Battery
• New water pump
• New cam belt and cam idlers
• New rocker cover gaskets
• New hex bolts for rocker cover
• Heater pipes (pipes from hell) bypassed with hoses under fuel tank
• Lowered suspension 30mm
• New Blueflame system
• New down pipe (the one with flexy bit)
• New 7mm coil pack
• Original Toyota 7mm plug leads and plugs
• New toyo's on the rear
• New rubber flexy brake hose's all round
• Calipers cleaned and serviced with new seal's fitted all round
• New brake disk's grooved and galvanized all round from CRN
• New brake pads all round
• New hand brake cables
• New anti-squeel shims
She's drives really well as well

Don't know what I'm going to do!

Before I found out that it was this bad under the sill's a chap quoted around £700 to weld supplied sill's on, god knows how much he would charge for cutting this sort of corrosion out and fabricating new panels to repair the inner sill as well! it's just as well I had a dig around myself.

Personally I would just strip it and get another preferably an import you could spend close to what it would cost for another car just repairing it I would have thought

one thing that seems to be good about my MR2 is it's resistance to rot

Has you car had a dodgy accident repair? or perhaps a jack had damaged the underseal in the past?

think it's more likely to have had to put up with 18 years of britain's salty roads, imports only have to put up with them from the date of import

Hi, Steve-o 2007 don't think I could afford getting a import only got about 600 saved at the moment. Don't think it's dodgy accident repair Ian, but as Marty1 say's 18 years of UK's salty roads will have had it's affect on this area, I have see quite a few mk2's with the same problem. Has anyone sorted this area before, is it a nightmare to repair any pic's of the repairs in stages?

i've been trying to find a rot free crx and the only rot free ones are imports

is this your main car? If not or if you can live without it for a while I would strip it and sell the bits and the money with that plus your 600 could get you an import

Hi Steve-O 2007, this is not me main car, yes you are right it would be the best solution to strip it and get an import, I have been thinking of fabricating some panels myself and welding them in with a mate's MIG I've got nothing to loose in having a go! well that's my options, I'll have to sit in a dark room for a few days and have a think

i'm gonna have a shell available soon, once it's stripped, i'd do it at a cheap price, it's rev 3 shell though, pics are in the link on my sig,

Once you've done all your sill work don't forget to check your rear side windows... apparently the early revs weren't bonded but use a gasket which eventually fails and hence water ingress which makes it's way to the inner sill/seatbelt area. A fixing kit is available from Mr T for £40ish so I've read or you could get a windscreen company to rebond them if needed.
