Couldn't open my doors this morning because of the ice..

Post by TheBaker »

Is this a normal issue or perhaps due to a leak??

I had to get some boiling water and pour it along the seals then pry it slightly.

1 - Yes as there is no frame round the window the glass freezes against the rubber where the door shuts. Mine was the same this morning.

2 - NEVER use boiling water on windscreens/windows as the combo of hot water and freezing ice contracting and expanding at the same time can cause it to shatter. Just use room temp water to help it out a bit.

apply a thin layer of grease to your rubbers and you shouldnt get any door freezing problems :)

probably, spray some on a cloth and wipe it on :thumleft:

Yeah, I had the same problem. Managed to get the passenger side door open, start the car from there, get the heaters on, and eventually pushed the drivers side door open from the inside. Took a while to get it to open though.

Just dont use vaseline on the rubbers as it'll cause them too perish.

leave a can of de-icer by your car keys. Take it out with you, if the door is frozen use the deicer to free it.

I tell a lie, it wasn't boiling just hot water from the tap.. just aswell it hadn't been boiling I guess. Didn't have the patience to wait for the kettle heh.

Think I'll get some de-icer for future issues.

Cheers. :thumleft:

I found if you use some sort of rubber cleaner it helps it too, think it was Auto Glym I used and seemed to do the trick
