[Mk2] [Generic] Help needed

Post by newmr2owner »

Today I am a very lucky boy, I currently have a rev 1 rather old high mileage mr2 that I love but many parts have seen better days.

I work for a car dealership and have taken in a rev 3 MR2 on the scrappage scheme and have the day off work tomorrow of which I will be spending the day in the works compound changing all the nice bits off the scrapage mr2 and putting them on mine. Only thing I have to do is put all my old broken stuff on the rev3 so its a complete car for the scrappers!!!

This does mean doing everything twice though. I know little about mr2's but am handy with a spaner so should be ok.

Im gonna do the rear light conversion and stealing some nice crystal front lights too to get rid of my orange ones.

My main question is my interior mirror is broken at the moment and does not stay in place, is the interior mirror unit easy to remove and swap over between the cars???

Also can the external mirror glass be removed without breaking it easily??? I want the heated glass from the donor car for mine to do heated mirror conversion for the winter, wont have the time for full folding conversion, so just want the glass and will wire from my rear screen demister.

1 last one...I assume that all MR2 wheels are the same PCD and offsets, I have 14's standards on mine at the moment, the donor car has new 17's on it, these should fit ok yes???

Thanks in advance..and im well excited!!!

the wheels will be fine, if i was you though i would swap as much as you can over but don't waste time putting the bits on your car, leave all that for another day and it will give you the opportunity to get a lot more

the mirror is easy to swap also Btw

Is the donor car a different colour to yours ?

it is a diffrent colour yea, the cenre panel of the rear lights will need to be painted, I need to get the car home so will just fit the rear lights into place so legal to drive and will sort later. I am hoping there are 2 keys to the car so I can nick one of them to keep in the boot lock.

Out of all the nice bits im most looking forward to having an aerial that works again!!!

if you can,try and get the brakes from the rev3,calipers and discs.they are larger than the rev1 setup and more efficient.also look better if you are intending to fit 17's.
also don't think you will be able to fit the 14's to the rev3,unless you swap the brakes over.paul.

what are you going for?

performance or a tidier car?

i'd have the brakes, suspension and seats/interior parts (if they are in better condition than yours).

wheels should go on fine. might look a bit silly with rev1 suspension tho... :-k

They'll only go on if he fits the smaller rev1 brakes.

bit of a disapointing day in the end......

Hadnt seen the car beforehand, it was another rev1 but had the rear lights updated, didnt have them as they were all scratched.

Arial must have borkn before so he had removed te sides of the rear spoiler and put a halfords one in...no thanks

I got a few bits that were niggling me, new mirror that adjusts so i can see, ashtray was mint so swapped that for my broken one, got some crystal front lights, bonnet stay clip (tiny thing but been annoying me for ages) and both rear sub boxes. Nothing else worth having, seats were cloth and old.
Had a set of nearly new alloys on it though, not my cup of tea but I would have had them and wouldnt have needed to swap anything else as it was a rev 1, but it had full set of spline bolts holding the wheels on, not seen this before, no lockers but spline bolts and even at a garage noone had the tools to get the off without uining them, so didnt bother.

Oh well, got a few bits, they were free and only used an hour or so of my day
