I recently fitted a Janspeed exhaust system to my MK1a and it spit flames when i change gear high up the rev range. Ive got no problem with this at all and understand the principle of it, i just want to find out if it is common with a Janspeed system on a mk1a? I know that the MK1b had a tamer fueling map, so i was expecting harsher fueling from the MK1a ecu, but im just concerned that the car may be over-fueling a bit too much. Any help on the subject would be greatly appreciated!
My 1b pops very occaisionally with the Magnex exhaust, I see no reason why a 1a wouldn't flame a bit. So long as it's not setting fire to stuff it's not a problem.
You lucky boy! I cant get my current Mk1b to pop or flame through its magnex, even with HKS 264 cams (timing is standard).
In comparison the rally car is a fire hazard!
Brilliant thats good news! im not going to lie, im enjoying the flames!
aw11rally - Ive been looking at some 264cams, how does the engine idle with them fitted?
No change in idle, and not much change in power but does pull hard right up to the rev limiter, more rewarding than the standard cams.
I have a ported and flowed head, ITB's and OMEX which will be fitted at some point, hopefully these will make a lot more difference than the 264's.
The cams on the rally car are something like 300's with twin 45 webers, v.rough idle and no power until about 4500.
