Right so when I am doing 70 on the motorway the revs are under 3k so this must mean I am in kilometres still, any idea where I get a stef delimiter and converter thingy? Also since it is my first mr2 turbo I'm not sure how long to leave the car on after a hard drive to let the turbo cool down or how long to drive granny like so I can switch off when I get somewhere. Also the engine was mounted quite low, gives ok clearance on roads and big bumps across roads, but square bumps I went over one tonight and heard a big clunk :(

Hopefully be cutting some holes into the boot and putting vents in v soon, and booking it in for welding to get the strength back in the chassis, anyway, see you at jae tomoz!

I would give serious consideration to remounting that engine higher up, it really will give you no end of problems in that location.

Right so drove to JAE with the boot lid off and there was no problem with cooling so thats all good, just be cutting holes soon! I found out why the engine is so low, it's cause I was recommended to buy 30mm drop of the springs, which I foolishly didn't check and with a heavier engine the car is on a 40mm drop which is way too much, so I think I'll be looking at stiffer springs. At the mo it's having welding done underneath to put the strength back into it an then I'll see about the springs :s

Now today I got it onto some ramps and jacked up the back of the car to waxoyl it, also the only place to do it was at parents because I've peed off my neighbours enough hahah, plus I didn't want waX dripping off onto the driveway and and road, am doing the3 waxoyl because of 200 quid of welding it needed for mot, so here is some pics :)

Hydar, is there any protection for the blue hose where it goes through to the boot on the driver's side of the car (pic copied below)?

If not, I'd be concerend the hose could quickly wear through and split/burst.

Hi Garrick, I was concerned about this too, but having a look and feel around it there is actually some room for it to move a little even though the pipes are quite stiff too. To be safe on track, I'll soften the edges of the cut metal I think. Also got new discs and pads for rear so that should happen next, before I move over to mk2 rear calipers.. :D

Aounds good, am prolly gonna be able to rob some lining from the side tray on engine lid as I'm opening that up for cold air feed

I have to say after driving it for a week now, I love the instant speed the engine delivers but those celica brakes are amazing! They feel so much better than the other mk1 I have which is mainly stock and they will definitely stop you as good as a car with abs, big thanks to pistol pete for selling me them

There may be some you could rob from the breaker car's B-Pillar interior lining too :wink:

So I've taken off the side panels as you can see which helps a little for cooling. Was looking into those roof scoops but eveyrone says they are cr@p so I think I will stick with cutting my rain tray in the lid out and putting fans in, similar to a rogue lid but not so extravagant. One fan for hot air out and one for cold into the air filter, thanks to Lewis for recommending this :D Do you guys think I should get thin fans.. something like the SPALS or what.. ?!

Looking good there mate 8)

Regarding run down after a spirited drive not sure what the rule is but I always drive off boost for the last 5-10mins of my drive as imo it’s got to be better having cool air passing over the engine rather than it sitting on the drive burbling away, hot static air, heat soak and all that :lol: plus it being annoying the neighbours

Also noticed that it looks like you haven’t cut the rear bulk head between the boot and engine bay, a lot of people do this on the mk1.5,just wondering if there is a reason for this, and is this why the engine looks in a different position to the builds the Mr. woods creates ?

Also dude cutting the rain shield is a good idea for cooling, I did it works well but it’s called a rain shield for a reason and I quite often found my spark pugs under water!

Right! The side panels are back on, I found a guy on eBay who does SPAL fans so went upto his warehouse yesterday and picked up two fans. Have done a temporary install too :D

First the grinder came out and I cut out the rain trays

Then I fitted both fans with some temporary cable ties for now, while I go find some bolts that fit :question: Hope you like.. comments welcome :thumleft:

Looking good there they are good fun aren't they?
My only concern is the height of the engine. From the pic of the mount you posted it actually looks like the engine is sat too far forward meaning not only is the engine lower but the turbo may be fouling the fuel breather pipes and the front bulkhead of the engine bay. How much space do you have at the front of the bay?
Also, I'd be keeping an eye on the engine and gearbox mounts. I've twisted some before that were much thicker and stronger looking than yours.

Cheers Si, that photo was taken in 2006 I think but not a great deal has changed under there since. The intercooler gets very warm .. not ideal at all and I certainly would not recommend putting it there, heatsoak galore!

The reason we cut the rear boot wall is for a number of reasons.

1. moves the engine further back,keeping the turbo away from the front firewall/petrol pipes etc

2. makes the driveshafts straighter.

3. for easier engine maintenance.

I'll agree with all of that especially number 3.

The 1.5 is easier to work on than my tubby!
