Does anybody run Magnecor KV85 on a Rev1 turbo?

Post by burn »

Hey there,

I recently changed my original Rev1 leads (red) to Magnecor KV85.
So far no problems, but as I spotted lead no 2 and 3 (the one under the throttle body and the one left of it) doesn't fit properly into the valve cover, there's a gap of approx. 1 mm between the silicone and the cover.

no 3:

for comparison - no 4 (fits properly):

Does anybody who too runs Magnecor have this problem?

Forgot to mention; it's a US engine, but that should make no difference..

Cheers

I use these in mine and they all sit flush, as you said being a US engine shouldn't make a difference. May be a silly question but the 2 that aren't flush do they click in place(on the plug)?

Both of them 'click' straight on the plug - and curiously they both work fine. I replaced them when one of my stock leads cracked. Since then the engine runs fine and smooth.

Do you know if there's any difference in the N/A leads and the tubby leads? For I bought this set from a N/A owner who used them on his 3S-GE engine. But afaik this set fits both engine types.

Very strange :( I only recognized this when I used a cut-out engine lid (no rain shield) when water came onto the plugs..

Good question, i'm not too sure about that tbh. Had a quick look at their application list and the part numbers seem to be different for 3sgte and 3sge :-k Not sure if theres any differences in depth between the turbo and n/a rocker covers but it seems strange that only 2 are not sitting flush. Try to confirm if there is a difference between n/a and turbo if there isn't then i'd put it down to a manufacture fault :-k

only the toyota plugs i have found to fit perfectly, aftermarket always seem to fail in that area.
just something you will have to live with, shouldnt be of any detriment though.
next time, buy toyota leads :D

I just swapped the cables, 4 to 3 and as expected it fits (better than the other lead). There's still a small gap, but now I can assume that it's just bad quality. Furthermore I had to discover that due to the water inleakage the Magnecor lead bushing is rusty as - how exceeding - the silicone is cracky.
Damn!!!

I replaced it with my old Toyota lead.

Unfortunately you can't purchase OEM Rev1 leads at Toyota anymore. That's why I had to buy the Magnecor ](*,)

i have to say ive had magnecore leads on all my mr2`s both na and turbo and ive only got good words for them. sometimes they may pop off but poking the air bleed hole with a pin sorts that out.
if your old plugs still are a little high then there must be a problem. any leads should cover the plug hole, otherwise rain will pour into the pots.
are your plugs tight? are you sure they havnt been put in previously at a slight angle which may have cross threaded and make them stand a little higher?
