[Mk2] [Turbo] BOV placement

Post by nailmonkey »

Hi All,

What is everyones opinion on BOV placement?

I'm getting some compressor stall despite having a HKS SSQV fitted. The SSQV is fitted to a ST205 chargecooler in the stock location but the pipework, particularly to the chargecooler is a bit longer than normal. The SSQV does vent but I get stall a split-second later even whilst the SSQV is still open.

I'm thinking about moving the valve closer to the turbo on the hot side of the chargecooler, partly because this is the easiest option and partly because this is where OEM manufacturers always place BOVs/BPVs.

However, I've found conflicting information on the Internet with some people saying that close to the throttle body is best and others saying that next to the turbo is best.

Any input on this?

Thanks,

Nik

Can you adjust the spring pressure of the BOV to tackle this?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. No, this is the later style SSQV that does not have an adjustment screw.

OEM valves are normally installed post inter/charge cooler so its the cooled charge that is recirculated, rather than recircluating the host gasses like the mr2 does as standard.
