scary noise...help needed

ok, so ive started getting a knocking from the osr wheel of the mr2

Noise only happens when braking and noticable at slower speeds, although I think this is due to less road noise more than anything.

I did a seal kit in my rear brakes 3000 miles ago as osr was seized and thought it might have gone again.
My rear discs are warped and I need to replace anyway but no rush as work very well.

Got home and took the wheel off and discs and pads wear are fine, pads were changed with the seals so look like new. discs nice and clean both sides but not worn so would think good contact being made from pads and discs.

Got car in air and took wheel off and struggles to find anthing. Could not replicate the noise from just spinning the wheel and the misus putting pressure on the middl pedal.

Then looked for movement in the surrounding parts and I have found a slight movement which causes a very quiet knock on the joint directly under the disc, I suppose this is a rear lower ball joint.

Does this sound right to cause this kind of noise, sounds very severe on the car and defo from this corner and only when braking????

Could well be the ball joint, but if I were you I would check for play in the top mounts or as was the case with mine and still is the case until next Wednesday, the shock itself (if you have spring and shock setup). I have play between the strut and the strut housing and also the spring has kinda lost its springyness so it rattles when not under compression as it has stopped springing back to its original length. This may be the case as when you brake the weight moves to the front of the car, unweighting the rear?

Thats my simple minded viewpoint, but I am no mechanic, so Im sure others can be better informed than me

a lot of time road testing and putting on ramps in the garage and managed to trace the noise to the brake caliper.

Becuase my rear discs are warped they have been moving the caliper slightly when braking, this in turn has been letting small amounts of air into the top joint of the caliper/carrier and the lithium grease had dried out I had put in when refurbing. This meant you could hear the pin knocking inside the caliper as the brake dis was hitting its highspot.

good news was that its cost me nothing

.....really do need to get a set of discs though

hey i think i might have this problem, when i brake theres a sudden clunk from what sounds like 1 of the front wheels, is this what was happening to you?

hope its nothing serious cant afford anything at the moment
