[Mk2] [Turbo] Is there anything magic about unseizing rear toe arm

Post by davidmit »

I've read lots of people have the same problem I now have with a stuck toe arm meaning I can't have the geo done ](*,)

I've got it in the vice and trying to undo the nut but it aint moving. Am i turning the right bit? Ive got the long hexagonal bit in the vice and trying to undo the nut. Ive WD40'd heated and let cool but nothing, I have loosened one nut, but the other is going no where.

Open to suggestions as this is a real PITA as I was due to take it in to get the geo done after fitting my poly bushes.

Thanks

Right after buying one second hand and finding the other just as impossible, I turned stubborn and eventually got there after around 4 hours of elbow grease.

For others with the same problem, heat the nuts and this helps alot.

The shortest end with the nut is a reverse thread btw! Forget this and you will never undo it.

If you take the track rods off the car and put them in the vice, I found that putting the end without the rose joint in the vice, and turning the long hexagonal bar clockwise. Every quarter of a turn, you need to turn the top back around as there is a joint between the two bars.

Take them apart and dowse in copper grease to try and prevent happening the next time.

Go in and wash cuts and bruises in the sink, have a beer and pat yourself on the back.
