[Mk2] [Turbo] Battery warning light? Alternator SORTED

Post by sir chad »

Hi, I'm putting my rev2 tubby back on the road after 14 months SORN.
Got a couple of dumb questions followed by a technical one.
Is there a Battery light on tubbys?
Is it supposed to come on with the ignition before cranking?
If the answer to both of these is yes, then..
is the bulb a part of the charging circuit and if it's blown does it stop the alternator from charging?
Thanks
Chad

update..
there is supposed to be a battery warning light.
mine stopped functioning because the black/yellow wire between the alternator and the ECU-IG fuse was broken. meant that the alternator stopped working and i got no warning.
spliced a new wire in and all sorted. took a couple of hours-access is a nightmare
found how to diagnose fault by looking at lots of alternator posts- you should get 12v at all 3 terminals on the alternator plug with ignition on.
2-3 volts on any of these wires is bad.
i checked fuses and bulbs first.

Awesome, might be worth editing your topic title and putting alternator in there for people who use the search :thumleft:

Nice info to know, simple way to check.

Add this to checking the batt terminals while engine on - should see 14ish volts hich means the alternator is charging

A £5 volt meter is a godsend

Done.
The battery needs to be fully charged before testing for 12V ;)
