[Mk2] [Turbo] error code 52 (knock)

Post by Taylor »

Hey,
I hope some of you guru's can help me, i've had 3 naspy Mr2's before... but this is my first turbo.....

its a rev 1
with a rev 2 engine and ct20b turbo.

now, its got all the wiring from a rev 1..
and the ecu is from a gt4 st185, and runs fine....

however.

the problem:
when you rev the car past 1400rpm the ecu light comes on.
& when driving on boost, it sometimes stops all power and pops petrol out the back (imagine it like hitting fuel cut)

i originally thought it was the wiring for the knock sensor to the ecu, now i've ran a wire from the knock sensor to the pin on the ecu and its still doing it.

we've tried 4 different knock sensors in the car in the last 2 weeks lol

its currently got a gm knock sensor in courtesy of woodsport :thumleft:

:( help !

Basic stuff, but don't know your car...
Have you reset the ECU to clear the error code (and ignition retard)?
Have you got any mods that allow overboost? bleed/grainger etc, have you de-catted the exhaust? & if any of the above do you have a Fuel Cut Defender?

thanks for the reply Chad.

I've reset the ecu. (pulled out the EFI fuse for 30 seconds)

had the timing done, BUT what we didnt do as it was being timed was put a wire in E1 & TE1 so the settings never saved on the ecu ](*,)
so that won't be helping.

It's got a decatted downpipe, and Apexi N1
doesnt have: grainger valve or F.C.D

runs on stock boost (7/8psi i think?)

its all piped in right too.

hmmmm!

just as a foot note, the car ran perfect on the way home from having the timing done!

turned the car off to see what error codes it was showing (lambda sensor/o2 sensor was nackered)

and when we turned the car off the timing adjustments won't have stored..

so after that i wasn't quite right 8-[

*edit*
would that make the knock sensor code show?

you might want to fit a boost gauge and I expect a FCD, imho your exhaust system will be giving you extra boost, happened to me and I've seen it on others.

The timing has to be the first place to start Set it at 10btdc. Not easy to do as you have to get your head right over by the back window to be able to line the marks up as the engine leans over.

I've got a timing gun at home so i'll time it up tonight.
i painted the timing marks in yellow so we could see it alot easier.

MUCH easier to see :thumleft:
