Goodyear Eagle F1 vs Vredestein Sportrac

Post by SuperRedMR2 »

Hi,

I need to buy four new tyres as my T1R Proxes just can't cut it anymore. I have found that MyTyres still have some F1s in stock for a price of £48 each. I have heard a few people mention that Vredestein Sportrac are good value for money.

Now, having gone through 2 sets of F1s in the past I know that they are very good. But I don't want to buy the Vredestein's and be royally disappointed! Has anyone ever used both manufacturers before?

We have the Sportracs on the Celica, although front wheel drive.

They've shown themselves to be excellent :thumleft: I know Chris (limey) is having trouble getting online at the mo but I'm sure he'll vouch for them.

On the other hand I have cheapy Silverstone FTZs on my mk1 and although I was a bit worried about them they too have proved themselves. The car never lets go wet or dry nor does it go searching for ditches to dive into

ISTR Tom recommending the Vredsteins as well after a wet trackday at Cadwell.

Alan Head ( and the moonbuggy ) used to swear by P6000's too, even for use on track.

I had Pirelli P6000s on my MK1 and all i can say is DO NOT TOUCH WITH AN UNFEASABLY LARGE BARGE POLE. They do not cope well in the wet AT ALL, especially with changes in direction, such as going around roundabouts (start at 6 and go roudn to 3 to turn off) as I spun my car several times with the P6000s on doing that. The back end felt slidey and uncomfortable. At one stage I had some unknown brand part worns on the back of the car that cost me £30.00 fitted, for the pair. They were infinetly better than the P6000s in the wet.

In the dry, stunning tyre, very good grip, in the wet it was a ditch finder.

P6000's were always intended as a hard wearing tyre for heavy luxobarge use. They're fatal on 200SX's as well, and I think the MR2 will be way too light for them. I'd never put them on anything lighter than a Passat.

Black Circles has Toyo Proxes CF-1's for £30 a corner. THye might be worth a shot.

what size wheels are you on? if 15's then theres a million choices if on 14's then theres not many sporty tyres as the orginal sizing isn't biased that way.

I am running F1's, the asymmetric profile (14 inch) on my car,

http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Goody ... metric.htm

they are amazing both in the wet and dry.

I was running budget tyres on the car before, the F1's have totally transformed the car, I have not managed to get into trouble with them yet, and they really give confidence in the wet.

We went on the lakes run earlier in the year, while others were feeling their cars squirming on the wet surface, my car felt totally planted and secure. It's the best money I have ever spent on a car "mod", and I got them for a REALLY good price (2nd hand).

The only thing I feel I should mention is that there was a bit more road noise (like a wheel bearing rumble) which was a bit disconcerting at first.

I would totally recommend these paying £48 each for them, I definitely will when mine wear out, if I can find any more as production of the 14' has now stopped.

I hope this helps!

I cant find any F1s now on the 15" rim. I'm not going back to 14s either.

The vredesteins are £38.50 a corner delivered, but from what i've heard they have a very good rating in the dry and better in the wet. So ill give them a go I think!

If you want the best yoko advan neova. Showing as £94 from buyatyre.com at the moment. I wouldn't fit anything else on 15s.

I can't afford £94 each at the moment.

Need to sell the RX7 before I buy anything which costs that much.

Anyone know anyone who wants a RX7 type R?
