[Mk2] [Turbo] TD06 and ST205 Charge cooler fitment.

Post by JP1 »

As above really, got an st205 cc setup currently, willl the TD06 compressor line up with the inlet on the cc?

Also, I noticed that the TD06 is a jounal bearing turbo and the later line of garret turbos are 360 ball bearing type, whats the advantage and is this the reason for the massive price difference?

thanks

John.

the garretts are meant to be more advanced for quicker spooling etc.

didn't realise there was much of a price difference, if anything the greddy is more expensive unless your referring to the kits... :-k

neither of those turbos are direct fits to the mr2 so they come in kits with oil and water lines, downpipes, wastegates etc... , usually bumps the prices up to 2k plus

Yep me too, you will have no probs whatso-ever with lining the 2 up,
Almost a stock looking setup to be fair, only give away in the big external wastegate.
What i will say though is the rubber hosing (vacuum lines)
Make sure they are a good quality thick grade silicone hose.
I went to southend airshow today and on the way i peeked 1.5 bar of boost  (bearing in mind stock internals), pulled up at thurrock and found that the silicone hose had quite literally melted due to the heat ](*,)

Slightly off topic i know but though id mention,

But answer to your question

YES :thumleft:

Cheers Munnsy, exactly the answer I was hoping for, now to find a good deal on the kit.

It was indeed the prices of the kits that I was refering too, the garrets seem to come out a fair bit more expensive than the TD06 when the complete kit is considered. That said I need to do a bit more research so may transpire that I've not quite considered all of the needed parts.

First I need to get that old turbo off, should be fun seeing as those blots have need been touched from new :/

Cheers again all.

unfortunately, these units dont come up second hand that often, and i too was in a situation as far as being caught between the td06 but also looked at a few garrets but also the t3/4 street brawler kits.
Not bad money for a new unit but not quite what i was after.

The td06 never seems to fail when it comes to reliability (touch wood), and figures. Also comes as a complete kit, and optional screamer dependent on which kit you use.
For me personally it was everything i have ever wanted in a turbo, had the bases for more power when i go down the forged route, and wasnt over laggy.

This was the first turbo i have ever bought (aftermarket that is) and i was not dissapointed in any shape or form :thumleft:

Need any other info, ie pics etc just give me a shout and i will help as best i can bud :thumleft:

Thanks Dave, a credit to the forum.

Did you buy your kit new? If so where did you get it, will be looking to order one next week to start the fitting over the next few weekends.

no, i came across one from jimgts (long time well known imocer).
Bought it from him, but then had it diagnosed as bu88ered lol, however jim stood up and helped finance the repair so huge credit to him. :thumleft:

As far as who to buy the kit from, cant remember who supplies the kits depending on which one you go for, be it the ats or greddy :-k

Are you planning running a screamer with your setup??, only ask as i think the greddy kits were internally gated with no screamer and tended to suffer from boost creep :-k , However i may be getting my wires crossed etc.

Have a search around the web, and im sure you will find the answer to that but there are a few guys on here who know who to get it supplied from :thumleft:

Are you rev2 or 3?? and are you going forged route, or running larger injectors and engine management on stock internals?

I guess thats allways the risk with second hand stuff, you just dont know even with the sellers best intentions.

I think I'd rather have and external wastegate setup but have the screamer routed back into the downpipe, dont want to give the game away completely.

I have a Rev3 and I'm considering just running the turbo on the standard injectors, ecu etc until I build a new lump, will go the whole hog with that, forgies, cams etc but that will take some time.

Will just run the turbo on low boost so I dont lean it out too much, I'm guessing I can get around the same kind of performance to what I had with the ct20b without doing any damage?

The ATS Td06 is great. I went down a similar route as you are planning. ATS TD06, Sard 800 injectors, link ecu and st205 charge cooler. On just the actuator pressure ( 0.8 bar ) i managed 308 fwbhp.

Spool is similar to the Ct20 but it pulls really hard further up the rev range.
The screamer pipe is fun but can attract unwanted attention every time you put your foot down.
