[Mk2] [Generic] What speaker can you fit in the front and rear?

Post by ^Trickster^ »

I cant remember what size speakers I have in the front as I installed them 5 years ago.

Whats the max size you can fit without doing anything to the door?

Can you chop anything away to fit larger front speakers?

What size speaker fits in the rear?

Can you chop anything away to fit larger in the rear too?

Thanks

The standard front speakers are 5", but you can quite easily make up some MDF baffle rings so they accept 6.5" drivers. You may also have to chop a few ribs off the door card to accomadate the larger diameter/depth speaker.

With regards to the rears, i really wouldnt bother. Rear speakers in a cabin this small isnt necessary and will only mess with the sound stage.

If you must have some rear fill then the standard fit 3"(?) mids are more than up to the task, but personally rears are a no go for me.

I have never ran rear speakers before as I thought it would mess up the sound, I have macrom front components at the moment but would like a much better set.

I think the ones I h\ve in are 5 inch

I might not bother with the rears after all.

Thanks

Get some Focal 6.5" in there. Awesome speakers and you really don't need anything else.

Rears are pathetic and pointless. I also have some 6x9's waiting to go in that I've mounted in an MDF replacement to the cubby hole lids. Will see what they're like and bin them if they're crap.

You can see my ring here

I silicone sealed them in too.

And yes some ribs did need to be trimmed from the door card. A simple job with the dremmel or some snips.

I ended up removing my front components which were 4 inch and fitting some oxygen pro 6.5inch componenets, oxygen 12 inch sub and oxygen 4 channel 600w amp, sounds nice apart from I now have power steering whine interference.

My audio mate is going to sort me out a suppressor to get rid of the noise.

Focals were taken out many years ago. I wouldn't dream of putting 6x9's with them.

Hi Graeme,

I'm in the market for some 6.5" components, wondering what the Oxygen's are like, do they have plenty of bass without the sub??? what price and where are they from ???

Graeme: A friend of mine is a audio and alarm installer/supplier and has been for about 20 years, I got the oxygen off him, I think they are fantastic, I still need him to set them up properly but I can have a call round so you can have a listen if you like.

They are 250 at the moment, normally 350 I think, these are the pro ones but he does some cheaper ones too.

Drop me a text over the weekend
