[Mk2] [Turbo] Wheel Sizes

As standard we have staggered alloys, but is there any harm in having same size all round. I'm looking at getting 8inch all round and putting 215 width front tyres and 245 rear on. Does anyone see this causing a problem?

nope, i have 215/35/18 on the front and 245/40/18 on the back, on a 8 inch rim, could be 8 and a half but all 4 wheels are the same

the rear track will be narrower and Toyota did have a reason for making the rears widers (other than making it fugging difficult to get aftermarket wheels ) Handling wise on the road it **shouldn't** make that much difference but then depends on how you drive on the road I guess

The only problem is, you wont get a 245 tyre on an 8J rim.

I wouldnt go any more than 235 with a low profile.

Other than that, they will be fine mate, although you may need to spacer the rears to make them sit flush with the arch, but its not essential.

sorry, that's completely in-accurate about the rim width. Read the tyre maker sites for their recommendations on tyre / rim sizes http://www.falkentyres.co.uk/fk452.asp

I regards to the staggared set up, and toyota designing the car to have the rears wider, how much effect does that have, if you can stick with the staggared tyre width on same size wheels?

Would it just be down to how they sit in the arches, if so then spacers will cure that wouldnt it?

One other thing that having a wider rear alloy will do is give you a wider tyre footprint/section width once the tyre is actually fitted.

As a rough rule of thumb for each 0.5" wider the alloy you are fitting the tyre to, the resulting fitted tyre section width will increase by about 5mm.

For eg. say you had a 225/50/15 tyre fitted on a 7" rim that had a measured section width of 225mm exactly once fitted. This same tyre's resulting section width would roughly measure to be about 230mm fitted width on a 7.5" alloy and only about 220mm on a 6.5" alloy.

So having a 1" stagger in alloy width front to rear is going to make the 'staggered effect' slightly more pronounced than if you were using same size alloys front and rear but with the relevant sized spacers. The difference in handling is probably going to be too small to notice through the seat of your pants though (but hey you did ask, lol )
