i have never had a problem with insurance and a stainless exhaust. mines been on a classics policy for many years. if its a magnex/mongoose with no major changes over standard you should be ok.

My insurance didnt seem to care about my Janspeed, cant remmeber if i told them though. I just see it as i can prove it doesnt increase performance as it only made 120bhp on the RR and its cheaper then a full system from toyota.

I even had a claim last year with churchill and the car went of for inspection. They werent bothered about the exhaust and the guy even mentioned it on the phone as i have a massive janspeed sticker in my rear window.

I'd have another chat with your insurance company. Plenty of people run stainless magnex/mongoose (same thing) on their cars.

Buying a mild steel one is a total waste of money in all honesty.

We're running a Magnex on a Norwich union 'classic' policy. No problems at all, just a declared mod.

There is no point buying a standard exhaust. My car had a brand new one on when I bought it 18 months ago, it was scrap when i changed it for a Magnex last month. They're also about the same price, although I got my Magnex second hand for £150.

Just re-insured mine today with Houghton's. i asked if they were Ok with my Magnex and they said yes as it's a classic policy it did not matter.....only £96 too !!!

I would call them back...who was it ??

I had a magnex on my track car which was fine on Houghton's classic policy. In fact all mods (and there's a fair few) were declared with no problems. Their policy also covers track day use, but the track day excess often outweighs the cost of the car (as it did in my case).

Only problem I find with decent classic policy's such as Houghton's is the limited mileage and lack of being able to build up NCB's.

and what about a manifold?

had a gorgeous mk2 gti 16v in oak green with full magnex manifold system, and the throttle response was a lot better low end. and the noise! 2nd gear was addictive!

my point though. defo more power with that set-up, better breathing. can't not be.

My track car originally had a (HKS/Blitz?) tubular performance manifold that was declared through Houghton's. Unfortuntely it stress cracked and snapped on a trackday a year ater I fitted it :(

Same thing happened to the custom 4:1 manifold we had on our SC - that was declared on a regular FC policy with A-Plan - also no probs with the insurance.

You'll need a exhaust manifold gasket from MrT (or ebay) and a pair of manifold - front pipe gaskets also MrT or ebay. It's also worther replacing the manifold stud nuts as I find they work loose in no time if old and re-used. These can be got from MrT.

not tampering with the manifold. that's staying put. just bought the manifold to back-box pipe, and a back box.

Then you'll just need the two circular gaskets from MrT, Ebay or decent local autofactor (not Halfords).

Also as said above, you might want to replace the 3 stud nuts too as they are sprung and the old ones loose the tention after a number of years and removal. These are only availabel from MrT as far as I'm aware.

Yeah sorry about that - MrT = Toyota Main Dealer

Some people also refer to it as MsT or MrsT as like with other halves can be expensive :clown:
