I think its legal untill a point. It will have to allow so much light through. Im positive that some new cars come with tinted rear lights as an option

i think the leagal side refers to what u tint and how dark. i think you cant tint your reflectors and if you do you have to fit others elsewhere. and the rest have to have a certain amount of light coming through.

Only illegal if it does not show up the correct color. I.E the indicators are very dim or not orange on flash...same with the others.

I'm guessing put them in the oven to take them apart so he could spray them on the inside

I got some tinting spray from Halfrauds last year. Spray on, drys in minutes, couple of light coats. Says on the tin that if you rub your lights with a cloth saturated with the spray it'll come off (if you needed to remove it) but never tried it. Its been on for over six months with no need for baking and its not cracked and it hasn't came off with multiple washes.

Pics in my garage.

Note that I didn't spray my reflectors or twin pods as I think it looks better. Also, the indicators shine through really brightly.

Just had a look in your garage mate, are you spraying the original REV1/2 lights or the Afterburner/Lexus ones?

Got a set of Afterburners sitting in my garage that I took off my car when I bought it and was thinkng about spraying them too for a 'what the hell' project. Be interested in the results if they're the latter.

Yeah they do go a little mouldy on the inside, must be moisture getting in, which is why I'm toying with spraying them. Might have a go in the next few weeks.
