where can i get octane booster in glasgow or surrounding

Post by jim55 »

im going on the highland drive and im a bit concerned about not every garage having super .im looking to put a case of booster in the boot just in case .does anybody know whereabouts i can get it ?preferably in glasgow cos i dont really want to pay p and p for something i could just pick up.im prob being a bit paranoid but rather that than being stuck out in wester ross with only unleaded at the pumps ,and no alternatives for 100mls :?

Dont go for the NOS or the 20k or the Nitrox stuff its all marketting and hype.

Halfords do a (I think own brand) Proper additive to raise octane that comes with a small chamber ontop of the bottle that you squeeze to fill depending on how many liters you have added.

ideal to throw in the boot if you do get stuck somewhere but not advised for regualr use.

don't these products just raise the octane by a couple of points? ie 95 to 95.2.

Jim, in Fort William you have Esso and BP super with Shell Vpower so top up there on your way up. Also Inverness has the same choice and Skye has a station selling super on the left as you go into Portree (was there last year on the IMOC run). I believe on the run into Portree there is another station selling super but I can't remember where it is. Ullapool has a garage selling Super as well.

If you're motor is relatively standard then you'll be fine on 95 RON. The ECU will do what it's designed to do pull the timing and everything will be fine.

Mine was decatted running a GT4 CC and running 15 psi on a CT26 and it was fine doing 1500 miles plus in the middle of nowwhere on the Scottish west coast. Maybe a little flat, but it doesn't do the engine any harm and it comes back when you fill up on the good stuff when you get home.

Basically don't bother with booster, the car will look after itself, just fill up on 98 etc when you can. :)

If you have standard boost, then you should be ok...

If you have boost turned up, I would turn it down if you have to run on 95, as the chance of DET increases.

I'd always aim for SUL and stay off boost if you HAVE to run Unleaded. The ECU can only retard the ignition so far and since you've removed the VSV it can't lower the boost to protect the engine.

Like I say, you should be fine as there are SUL stations where you are going.
