Car back together. Starts fine. But DIES after about 3secs!

Post by jimGTS »

Any ideas???

I thought vacuum leak somewhere, but I can't find anything.

Can smell fuel, so getting fuel, the car is firing on 4 cylinders an sounds perfectly normal, but just dies. Like the power is cut or something. No revving sorts it.

Thanks

Check the Earths on the bottom of the Inlet Manifold :thumleft:

This is the thing, You fiddle with something to try and make it better (even when its working fine) and you always end up fooking it up :( :( Happened to me the day, car was running fine but I thought I would just set the boost controller up again, now my car boost crap again and I cant get it right :(

Jim,

You've only had the exhaust manifold off ??

Work backwards... what exactly have you removed that will affect the electrics ? Fromt he work you've been doing.. its all nuts and bolts ??!!

I know, nuts and bolts! I'm stumped! Cars only been stood for a week and half
Only electronic thing I've touched is the ic fan wires. Chopped the ic fan connector off and wired the same 2 wires to the 2 wires on the spal fan.
That's it. I've no clue what could have happened.
I've removed the dump valve and put in a blankng plate so Im basically the same setup as before.

I've tried so many things I think I've drained the battery now.

I used to here the fuel pump when puttng the keys in the on position, I don't now. But when I brdged the terminals in the diag box, and put key in on position I could clearly here it.

Jim.

The problem is the fc relay switching down when the starter relay clicks off.

Run the fuel pump from the diag port with a hair pin B+ and FP the car will run.

There will be a problem with wiring to the relay most likely and earth.

So if I can get it to run via bridging those, what's the next step??

Fc relay?? You talkig bout the power fc, or fuel cut?

Suggestions on sorting it??

As said I haven't been anywhere near anything else apart from the turbo/manifold/intercooler. All nuts and bolts by there.

Many thanks

circuit open relay Jim that where the issues lies.
Get the BGB open and your lecky tester out and track down where the problem is. Most likely a simple earth.

Any chance of pointing me in the right direction on the bgb?? Ie which section??
Thanks

The circuit open relay a part or you just saying it could be any relay with a broken connection??

I've not been near the map sensor.
But have checked it and it's fully connected with cable ties to.

5th bullet point down Jim.

"Engine Control 3SGTE" circuit opening relay shown in this section.

I would also check ignition main relay in the 4th bullet point down, "starting, ignition, charging"

You say you soldered some wiring together for the engine bay fan this is controlled through the wiring of the ignition main relay and I`m think this is whats caused the issue.

Disconnect this wiring you did and replace the ignition main relay with a know good one as a check.

Jim,
Does it run if you keep the throttle open?

Wiring diagrams are alien to me unfortunatly.
I can use a multimeter, but as for understanding those diagrams, LOL.

I did exactly what I did to my old rev2 regarding the spal fan and stock ic fan connector. Never had any problems on the old car doing that.

The diag port ie the circuit opening relay, not much matchs up to the rev1/2 one.

It's asked to me check continuity etc etc at certain pins, but those pins don't exist on the rev5.
For example the STA one.

As you say the wiring is different on the Rev 5 to the Rev 2 just because it worked on the Rev 2 doesn`t mean it will o.k on the Rev 5.

This is the only change you have made to the car`s wiring, you say, so I would rule that out first mate.

You will need to check the relays aswell mate.

I`m not saying it is just the wiring thats caused it but I think that the re-wiring of the fan may have caused a issue somewhere else, burnt out relay, earth fault ect.

Just re-connecting the wiring as it was before may not fix it.
