Is it advisable for me to get one of these in the meantime?

Re: S148 from Turbo Technics
Just dropped the S148 off with my mechanic - might get the car back tomorrow if all goes well! TT have set the actuator at 0.8 bar - I'd like to run a bit more than this I think? Is there anybody who'd be willing to spend a bit of time helping me dial in a little more boost with the Dual SBC and adj...

Re: S148 from Turbo Technics
It might have an FCD - would that stop it? Where would I find an FCD if it is fitted?

Re: S148 from Turbo Technics
Yeah I've been using the Blitz as my boost gauge since owning the car - seems pretty accurate, but I always figured I ought to have a separate boost gauge? It beeps at me occasionally in the wet or when losing traction - I guessed this was hitting the boost limit (seems to be set at 1.15 bar). Or if...

Re: S148 from Turbo Technics
I don't at the moment - I've got a spare Blitz boost gauge somewhere though which I could probably get working. That all sounds pretty complex but I think I understand what you're saying. Thanks for the detailed description! I'll come back to this once I've fitted the turbo and try to make some prog...

Re: S148 from Turbo Technics
Just spoken to Ryan at TT and he's informed me that the actuator is set at 0.8 bar on the S148 when I collect it. What do I do with my boost controller etc. to make it work? Not a clue when it comes to turbo stuff tbh

Re: S148 from Turbo Technics
I'm excited to see how it turns out
Should I start at about 14 psi then and see how it goes?

Re: S148 from Turbo Technics
Oh sweet - so it looks like I should be able to just go ahead with the S148 and bolt on with hopefully no issues. Fingers crossed
Thanks mate

That's good to know Gazza! Are you running on standard ECU and fuelling?

S148 from Turbo Technics
So I'm replacing my turbo as it appears that the exhaust impeller has dismantled itself. Spoke to Turbo Technics and they've suggested a rebuilt 'improved' version of my old CT20 for £400+VAT, or an S148 for £600+ VAT. I really can't be bothered with having to get the car mapped/forged/bla as it's b...

Re: Wheel size recommendations
Fair enough mate, all preference tbh. As soon as you fit AD08s you wont go back though! I used to run T1Rs on the MX5 and ended up just giving them to my mate because I didnt like them at all in the wet - dry performance wasnt bad for the price but obviously its a different car.. Rainsports ar...

Re: Wheel size recommendations
AD08R are great even in rain tbh - I've never driven my MR2 on ice or snow because I think I'd kill myself on any tyres  I'd definitely recommend them as a daily tyre because how often do you need to worry about ice or snow?! You could have a spare set of cheapo wheels with some winter tyres fo...

Re: Wheel size recommendations
Running staggered tyres on same-size wheels shouldn't have contributed at all to the blow-outs - I'd guess that's usually down to sidewall damage, punctures or insanely high pressures (probably 50psi+!). Or maybe if the tyres hadn't sealed on the bead correctly..? Not sure if that's a thing to be ho...

Re: Wheel size recommendations
Wheel diameter wise I'd advise 16" or 17" as there isn't a lot of tyre choice for 15" wheels and 18" is too big really. Generally you want the wheel widths to be about 1" staggered - so 7J (") front, 8J rear - or 8J front, 9J rear. This isn't set in stone though, just w...

Re: Diagnosis video - poorly turbo
Little update.. Had my mechanic over this morning to hear his thoughts, and the knocking has stopped \:D/ BUT some bits of what I presume are the exhaust side turbine blades came out of the exhaust. And I have zero boosty noises when revving it up. First video is just start up and revving. https://w...

Thanks Gazza - I'll be in touch once I know more!
Are 3SGE and 3SGTE cranks the same? I had a perfect 3SGE crank I sold a couple of years back for a steal, I'll be kicking myself if I could've used it now

Re: Diagnosis video - poorly turbo
Wonderful
Thanks for the confirmation chaps, I'll have to just leave her for a few months until I can muster up the motivation to do something about it Bloody cars..
I know I'll want to go forged, bigger turbo etc. so time to start saving!

Diagnosis video - poorly turbo
Hey all. Seems that my MR2 is a bit dead (Rev 3 turbo). A bit of background: 23rd Feb I topped up the engine oil with my usual Millers 10w40 Fully Synth - perhaps 1/4 of a litre. I then drove the car about 50 miles faultlessly, spirited driving. Turbo timer had about 2 minutes on the clock when I go...
