I'm pretty sure a standard 17mm will go in, if the reverse thread sockets go in I can see no reason why a 17mm won't, particulaly if it is a standard toyota alloy.
However, I would suggest a bit of caution when knocking the socket on, just in case

Had exactly the same problem, with the same locking nuts (McGard), I used the reverse spiral socket and an impact air wrench to get them off, this did take some time as the nuts have a hardened chrome finish and it takes some pressure to make the spiral thread bite.
