Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Slight rattle on new build engine?
Hi thanks for the input no prob with oil pressure everything is very good!! The car went to the machine shop yesterday and the engineer has confirmed the noise is piston slap. It was a friend who took it down so wasn't a party to the conversation he said it was because of the tolerance required for ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Slight rattle on new build engine?
Hi it was noticable from the first start its only very slight.

I've read that the toleances between the forged piston and the bore are greater than those of cast pistons because the forged pistons can expand upto 12% more?

[Mk2] [Turbo] Slight rattle on new build engine?
Again I think I may or may not have an issue if you have read my previous topic I have just completed a ST205 engine build using forged JE pistons. Now the cars been started everything seems fine its done 20miles not exceeding 2.5k rpm and no boost. I've since dropped the oil and filter for fresh bu...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] No oil pressure after full rebuild help!
Ok got it I thought it was like a non return valve to keep oil in the system when the motor isn't running. I just can't believe I would have got the head gasket round the wrong way I'll look through my pics to see if I have a photo of the head gasket on the block before the head went on! In the mean...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] No oil pressure after full rebuild help!
Yea maybe? It's all been put together with assembly lube so the bearings aren't dry but theres £1500 gone into this build on parts and machining and really can't afford to screw anything up! I think I'm going to put the sump back on strip the pressure release valve thingy remove the spring and plung...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] No oil pressure after full rebuild help!
Yea when ever I do oil changes I wizz the motor over before starting to get the oil light out. And bearing in mind I have the plugs out of this car so she turns over pretty quick. I know it's a little different because the engine has been completely drained of oil but I would have expected the light...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] No oil pressure after full rebuild help!
I've tried to attach a sketch of how I understand the route the oil takes and have been thinking about the pressure release valve. Earlier in the post I think I mentioned I removed this including the plunger and no oil was present when turning the car over. Well I didn't actually remove the plunger!...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] No oil pressure after full rebuild help!
I'm running a standard head gasket the gasket would only fit on one way from memory and was located on the dowls with the arrow pointing towards the cambelt. The oil squirters have been installed. The oil filter was primed before assembly i.e. I filled it left it 5 mins filled it again until it woul...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] No oil pressure after full rebuild help!
Ummmm yes lol! However I did not give her the finger I used my thumb lol! With the sump off I am unable to stop the oil discharging from the oil filter outlet so why didn't I have any oil up top coming from the oil pressure sensor yesterday? If the oil is being picked up by the pump and the pump is ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] No oil pressure after full rebuild help!
Ok I've removed the sump today and submerged the oil pickup in oil turned the car over and oil flys out of the feed that goes from the oil pump to the oil filter. I did the same again but tried to stop the oil from coming out of the feed that goes to the oil filter and couldn't.... got covered in oi...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] No oil pressure after full rebuild help!
Oh one last thing honest lol! As we think the problem lies between the oil pickup gasket and/or the two 'O' rings all of which can be replaced via the sump removal..... am I right in assuming there is no need to remove the side casing/oil pump? This will save me loads of hastle as I will not have to...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] No oil pressure after full rebuild help!

[Mk2] [Turbo] No oil pressure after full rebuild help!
Hope you can help! I've finished a full rebuild on an ST205 engine the motor went back in today I removed the plugs and primed the oil filter and spun her over to get the oil light out before actually starting the engine. However the oil light would not go out... so I removed the pressure switch spu...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Valve Springs Which Ones Are Exhaust Which Are Inlet?
Hey guys thanks for helping out! The new valve stem seals are from a kit manufactured by, The British Gasket Group part number HK1505H. I have spoken with them and they advised me the green were the intake and brown exhaust. So the valve springs marked with green are from the exhaust side and the re...

Valve springs on the inlet side are marked with red paint. The new valve stem seals are also colour coded green and brown, the manufacturer confirmed th...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] ST205 ENGINE BLOWN? ADVISE PLEASE GUYS!!
Hey guys, Yea I wondered why it didn't hit fuel cut? I have never checked the ECU could be it has an FCD or maybe an aftermarket ECU I will certainly look into this and report back! The MBC was a load of S***E.... it has been binned! As for the motor I had the following in mind, The above block rewo...
