Re: [FINALIZED] *MUST GO* Rev5 Turbo T-bar.

Ok, so the 'changes in circumstances' I was prattling on about previously have come into effect. I bought a diesel barge for soaking up the motorway mileage but now I'm storing and insuring 2 cars and a motorbike I've come to the realisation that I can't have it all :( So...with a heavy heart she's ...

Re: [FINALIZED] *MUST GO* Rev5 Turbo T-bar.

A month on and I'm still glad I kept her! Sold my sensible Yaris diesel a few weeks ago and bought a Motorbike - got my bike test at the weekend so soon I'll be able to commute on the bike and save the MR2 from the drudgery of the commute. My only concern is if I love riding the bike I may end up se...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Sensible aftermarket exhaust.

Update- bought a pair stainless 4.5" diameter exhaust baffles and fitted them this evening. Have reduced the volume considerably both outside and inside the car. Still has a nice low note to the exhaust and isn't excessively farty. Ideally I'd hook up an EGT sensor to monitor any adverse effect...

Re: [FINALIZED] *MUST GO* Rev5 Turbo T-bar.

WAAAAAIIIITTTT!!!! I can't do it! I logged on last night to check the ad, and as soon as the pics of *my* car came up I felt those feels. Those deep down emotional feels. Selling my Yaris instead - guy coming to look at it this weekend. NOT FOR SALE! Going to get a quieter exhaust, play about with t...

[Mk2] [Turbo] Sensible aftermarket exhaust.

Hi folks, I'm sure I read a thread on one of the Mr2 forums a while ago mr2 exhausts and how they compared (sound, volume, power). I've searched the webternet but can't find it anywhere. Anyway...I currently have a Motoria backbox and 3" decat on my Turbo. It's not absurdley loud, but it is too...

Re: [FINALIZED] *MUST GO* Rev5 Turbo T-bar.

I've been watching Kevin McCloud's Man Made programme on 4OD this afternoon. If you're not familiar with this programme he basically builds his own off-grid, renewable hideaway in the woods. It's got me thinking about the feeling you get, and the connection you have with something you've built for y...

Re: [FINALIZED] *MUST GO* Rev5 Turbo T-bar.

Indeed they are your old wheels Calum!

I did PM Mark (I bought the car from him as a Rev5 NA) before I started this for sale thread - it's always nice to let the previous owner have first dibs!

If weather & time permit I'll get a video walk round of the car to post up this weekend.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Major Coolant Leak!

Also check the heater matrix return hose - the one that has a metal pipe that goes over the starter motor and has a hose attached to it that then passes behind the exhaust heat shield- remove your air filter for easier access. If it's that it's an easy fix (compared to HFH!)

Re: Any drive shaft removal tips?

I find they need a prybar with a sturdy pipe or block at the fulcrum to help keep the direction the force is being applied to as parallel to the axle as possible. From experience gradual steady pressure doesn't work if they resist - they'll either slide out with hardly any protest or they'll put up ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rev3 Head Gasket questions

Glad to hear you have it running again. By the looks of the block it was a composite headgasket on it and not the multi layered steel one. Maybe why it went combined with previous owners mechanics and maybe not torqued it down properly.Im sure the multi layered toyota ones rarely fail so it should ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rev3 Head Gasket questions

So, a couple hundred miles of mixed city and motorway driving and she's still running smoothly. For reference I measured the head at various points and ended up with a uniform 119.4mm. I measured the head and block for straightness and all was well. Unfortunately I've had a change in circumstances a...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rev3 Head Gasket questions

Sexy new MLS Head Gasket fitted, replaced other gaskets around the head with genuine toyota ones to ensure future happiness, inspected relatively new water pump and after a thorough bleeding she's running really smoothly. Not taken it very far as I had to do an oil service on my yaris tonight and ti...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rev3 Head Gasket questions

Yeah the cam caps are on incorrectly- the previous owner did the head gasket and timing belt- I had to replace the timing belt and helicoil the tensioner bearing mounting hole. I was told the prev owner was a mechanic and did the work himself before he wrapped the donor car around a lamppost and ser...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rev3 Head Gasket questions

Head off and positive news- cheap head gasket (not MLS) had been used when previous owner rebuilt the engine, has failed massively. Bores look clean and happy with no signs of cracks at all (phew!). Going to order genuine gaskets, head bolts and rebuild. Will clean up the surfaces fully - no sign of...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rev3 Head Gasket questions

In the process of stripping the engine down, noticed numbers stamped on the head.

Noticed some numbers stamped on the head at the corner nearest to the clutch slave cylinder. Reads 11678. I'm hoping that's not the thickness after a previous skim and 116.78mm!
