Re: My first Mr2

After a year of happy motoring in my Mk1 I have moved onto my next cheap and interesting car...

I don't think this will be my last Mk1, they are great cars!

Thank you to all the helpful people on here who have helped out with my questions!

Cheers,

Matt

Deposit taken - 1989 'G' MR2 Mk1B

For sale is my 1989 'G' Mk1b MR2 (sunroof model) which I have owned since February 2011. It's been very reliable and enjoyable to own. Basic details are: MOT until August 2012 Currently SORN - can organise getting it taxed for the buyer at their expense. 111,000 miles (lower mileage engine fitted by...

Re: Those simple jobs that go horribly wrong

I use a set of oil filter pliers, have never let me down so far. I did my first oil change on the MR2 on Saturday, and with these I could remove the oil filter working from above the engine, didn't have to jack car up or get under it :) Example of the kind of tool: http://www.rapidonline.com/Tools-E...

Re: My first Mr2

38psi???? I have mine set to 28 psi all round on my 15s. Are the rainsports rotational tyres? They may have felt poo if they were fitted incorrectly? The funny thing was that the check sheet the garage filled out said they had tested pressures at 33psi, but on my gauge showed 38psi! I have just set...

Re: My first Mr2

Hello Gary,
Glad to hear that its not just me gettng the odd handling. How many miles of bedding in do you think you did? I am thinking that if its going to take a while I will put the F1's on the rear and the Rainsports on the front to see if that improves things.

Re: My first Mr2

Hello Limey :) The tyre place had inflated them to 38psi  so I let them down to around 32psi. There is 30/31psi in the fronts. I forget the recommended pressure for 195/50/15's, its around that isn't it? I think squirmy is maybe the wrong word...the amount the car reacts to a given steering wh...

Re: My first Mr2

Today I got a new pair of rear tyres fitted. After hearing lots of good reviews I got some Uniroyal Rainsport 2's as they seemed good value. With the new rear tyres on, the car now feel very different...overall the car feels a lot more 'oversteery' which makes steering feel less stable once above 50...

Re: Air vents blow out lots of mess!

I will have a look under the plastic grilles - I don't think it helps that I have to park the car overnight by lots of trees!

I read recently that Lotus Elise's have a simlar problem, and that people put a bit of fabric over the inlet to stop debirs coming into the cabin.

Air vents blow out lots of mess!

Could someone tell me where the inlet is for the cabin air vents? I want to put a piece of material/fine mesh over the inlet so it doesn't take in any debirs. I keep getting covered in bits of tree and dust when I turn on the blowers!

Re: Welder recommendation: between Birmingham and Oxford

I know a place that did a fantastic job of welding up my mates old mk1 near Oxford, I can't remember the name of the Garage off the top of my head but their work was second to none. I now live in Scotland but moved a couple of months ago after living near Oxford for six and a half years, I think I ...

Re: Welder recommendation: between Birmingham and Oxford

I'm after 'high standard' in that the repair will last - I'm not so fussed about the repair's asthetics.

I definitely need some repairs to the base of the A-pillars, and someone to have a good look over the car to see if there is any other rotten bits hiding away.

Welder recommendation: between Birmingham and Oxford

Does anyone know someone in the midlands/warwickshire/oxfordshire area who can do MR2 Mk1 welding repairs to a high standard? I am aware that there are some very good welders further up north, but its not realistic for me to travel that far.
Cheers!

Re: After Market Steering Wheel Horn Help.

Do you still have the box that the kit came in Matt ? On mine is written "Max II Steering Boss Kit Universal Type" Then iin a little white panel is printed "T-12 TOYOTA" Seems a bit of a contradiction stating universal & then Toyota MR2 is not mentioned Peter Sounds like the...

Re: Disc Protectors / Guards

Thanks for the replies :) Will be removing mine when I get the chance as they are rather holey. If anyone is interested, they are still available from Toyota at £29.80+ VAT each (front and rear are the same price). Out of interest, to remove the guards is it just a matter of taking off the disc firs...
