Not had this on the MR2 but had it on an another car, It was the crank oil seal weaping.. Would only slip once every few weeks and gradually got worse as the oil leak got worse.

May not be the cause in this case but if it gets worse it might be worth looking into.

This happened to mine about 2 years ago.. Turned out it had ripped a couple of the mounts off the electric motor so was twisiting in the door .. Swapped it out for a mates as he was breaking his and it lasted less than 6 months... Went to toyota and i remember it being about £45 for the whole frame ...
