The best offset for an MK2 is about 30 on the front and 35 on the rear (for standard suspension and no bodykit anyway).
Agree with tyre size too, 235 seems a little wide for a 7J rim.

You can get Falken 451's in 205/45/16 and 452's in 225/45/16, thats what I've just done on mine.
Am quite happy with the results so far
