Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] spark plugs

I would definately check the dizzy cap & rotor arm, these have a habit of going bad. I routinely check and clean the contacts up on mine every few months, they fur up in no time. This could easily be the source of you missfire. Sounds to me like it will not fire every few engine strokes then you...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] My 1st Dyno

Nicely put together video there, i'm impressed. Anyway, now you have your baseline figure, get some decent inter / charge cooling, colder grade plugs, and a boost gauge & controller. (Exhaust appears aftermarket, just need to loose the cat) You'll be able to run up to 1.2bar on the standard turb...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] My Christmas (photos of wreck included)

Just wanted to add I'm glad for your sake (The Driver) that your car was a Rev3.

Correct me if I'm wrong but i believe Rev3 onwards were fitted with Side Impact bars. This clearly took some of the impact and helped stop the door entering the cabin any further.

Glad your ok Mr :)

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Fiat cinq rad for chargecooler need help.

Yup, i know the hole your reffering to. I myself just made a cover out of 3mm aluminium and bolted it across the hole with some sealer for good measure. Failing this you can buy a blank to screw in or a coolant sensor to fill the hole also (may have clearance issues with the later). Just to add, i a...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Dont want to open a can of worms...but, best suspension set up on a budget?

The inner track rod screws into the steering rack, the track rod end then screws onto the track rod.

There is one per side, easiest way to describe where they are is they are behind the steering rack gaiters (the rubber thing on the steering rack)

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Dont want to open a can of worms...but, best suspension set up on a budget?

Just checked out site http://www.importcarparts.co.uk and the prices are very good. Interesting to see what the quality is like. On the subject of your parts list, i shouldn't bother with the rear suspension top mounts. These are static and as such don't wear. The fronts on the other hand have a bea...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Where can i get wiper blades?

Wiper blades are more or less universal. Just measure the length of them (21" at a guess) then pickup the required length from an auto factors. The blade will come with various clips to make it fit your car. I always use Bosch blades, there about 6 quid each and are decent quality. There are so...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Mr2 Turbo Emmisions UPDATED** useful for all members

At my last MOT it failed before the emissions test due to the tester observing there was no CAT.

He says "regardless of emissions, any car post 1992 needs to have a CAT present".

Consiquently, I went home fitted CAT and got MOT cert.

Pain in the Butt tho.

Re: [Mk2] [NA] OH NO!!!!!!!!!!!!

It would be easier to get into the drivers door then pull the boot release. I was once in a simular situation (car running, keys in car and me outside). Clifford alarm locked the doors, strip of steel got me in by pressing the window switch. Theres a guide but obviously not the window button. Good l...

Re: [All] [Generic] morrison e85 fuel...

E85 is the future, can't wait for this to be fully available :) The advantages outway the disadvantages to me. Ok, you need more fuel but the extra power appears to outway this. Apparently 25% extra power is achievable with mapping due to it being much more tolerant to knock. This in turn means more...

[Mk2] [Turbo] Tein Super streets - now fitted with Feedback

New suspension is required on Rev3 Tubby, current stock setup is really crashy, think the springs have sagged + they're just worn out. Also possible they are almost running on the bump stops so when hitting a bump its not good :( Originally wanted Yellow Billies and Eibach springs but having looked ...

[Mk2] [Turbo] Sound deadening, aint much as standard

After removing the drivers side carpets due to a water leak it occurred to me that there aint much sound deadening on these cars. Being a Turbo its obviously a Jap import, maybe theres more on the UK models. Anyways, I was wondering if it would be worth while to get some sound deadening material (No...

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Wet floor

Funny enough i had the same experience the other day (Drivers side). Stripped out the carpets, mopped up the water and waited. It rained and rained. I popped out at night with a torch, jumped in the passenger side (so as not to disturb the drivers door etc) and checked where the water was coming in....

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] How much water used?

I had the same after doing the head gasket on mine, it has since stopped now though. I think what happens is air eventually gets to the highest point in the cooling system (the cooland cap) even after being bled. When driving about small amounts of air release from parts of the cooling system, its j...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Pistons with bottom end in

Not sure of the reason your fitting pistons but if its an upgrade, IE new rings. I thought it was standard practice to hone the bores to allow the new rings to bed in correctly.

As far as i know the rings won't bed as well without a quick hone.

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] will i need spring compressors

It will be fine, the Red one just has a little more Pre-load.

When i did mine I had the strut in the vice, added the spring then top mount and shoved it down whilst my mate screwed the nut on. Easy.

Good luck and Enjoy :)

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] will i need spring compressors

With the Standard springs there is hardly any preload on them once off the car, ie fully extended. Spring compressors are not needed. I've had front and rear springs off many times (all standard springs, Rev3 Tubby) and they only expand about an inch more than the fully extended strut, so no compres...
