BMW 335d

Post by dawolf »

Was next to a BMW 335 diesel turbo today at some lights in my fairly standard rev 3 turbo. The BMW managed to get in front by about 2-3 car lengths before the road changed into one lane, I was a bit miffed and surprised by it although me pulling away at only 2000rpm probably didn't help matters as I didn't give my turbo chance to kick in properly, if I'd got a good start I think it would've been different. Even so I was surprised at how well the BMW pulled away for a hefty diesel car. Checked the stats and the 0-60 is 6 secs apparently but it has tons of torque.

IIRC 3.5 twin turbo diesel, nearly 300 bhp and about a killeton of torque lol.

Top Gear raced one against an equivalent V8 petrol model and it wasnt far behind.

only actually a 3.0 but still a very serious bit of kit, a remap see's circa 340bhp and enough torque to turn the earth!

Lol. Admittedly if I'd pulled away at higher rpm it would've been very close but either way it was a fast car. I just don't like to rag it off the line to find that the other car just pulls off normally and I end up looking like a nob.

335d's are complete weapons. Put it in Sport mode on the Auto box and just plant your foot and your away in no time from sitting at idle. Overall They are very quick and handle great so think twice before racing one :thumleft:

It makes me sick that diesels are so bloody fast these days. Most reps should, by law, not be allowed in such powerful cars.

I said about ten years ago that diesels would eventually match or possibly eclipse petrols.

Slowly but surely this is happening.

A few people back then laughed at me. Older people I might add (I was 17 at the time) who had this attitude of the old stinky diesels, no turbo's etc etc. It's plain to see how far diesel technology has moved on.

I hear even the Mondeo ST TDCI is bloody quick now?

The new 330's are 3.0 Single turbo's (petrol or diesel depending on the i or the d suffix)

335i's are 3.0 Twin turbo's, and as said, they are damn quick.

I'd have been shocked if you'd beaten it tbh. Didn't the 335d beat the old E46 M3 around the Top Gear track?

the only thing letting Deisels down in my opinion is the sound / Exhaust tone (Oh and having to pay £1.37 odd a litre for fuel!!! Put £20 in and you dont even get 15 litres!!)
