[Mk2] [Turbo] identifying rev2 shocks - Bilstein?

Post by xxlukexx »

Hi,

My car is in for a replacement shock absorber, which it failed an MOT for. Now that the wheels are off, the mechanic has found that the part he ordered doesn't fit.

Having looked at http://www.btinternet.com/~netsurf/mr2t ... Suspension (bottom of page) it seems that 92 on turbos were fitted with Bilstein shocks as standard. That page also gives part numbers.

When my mechanic spoke to Toyota they said they don't know anything about Bilstein, but then if they're UK and this is an import then that may not be a surprise.

Trouble is, I don't know whether anyone has put different shocks on before I owned the car, and i don't want to order the wrong ones.

I know practically nothing about suspension. Do Bilstein make more than one shock absorber? The current shocks say Bilstein, but I can't see any part number or anything.

Can anyone advise me on what to do?

Cheers,

Luke

they make hundreds of shocks mate!
best bet is to get a pic up and a part number and im sure someone will identify it.

Hi,

Thanks for your replies. Made a trip to the garage today and took photos. The shock says "Toyota / Bilstein" which makes me think it is almost certainly the standard turbo part. But if anyone can confirm, that would be great:

Hi all,

Thanks for all your replys. In the end the only options were to wait for the new Bilstein B6s to start being made again (too long to wait), to fit coilovers all round (too pricey) or to put some NA rebuildables on temporarily. In the end I managed to get two used front shocks from Rogue Motorsport for GBP50 delivered, which will get it through the MOT and back onto the road whilst I wait for the new yellow billies.

Cheers,

Luke
