[Mk2] [Turbo] engine smoke

Post by flex1984 »

just driving on full boost earlier today and the car started smoking alot from the engine not exhaust.

so i stoped and had a look at the emgine and theres oil all over the right hand side of the engine,it mostly the bottom right of the engine but also made its way upto the cam cover case.

theres no over heating yet either

engine starts ok but its does ent sound healthy, like running on 3 cylinders or sumthing

does anyone have any ideas as to what this could be?

Check the pipe that returns the oil from the turbo to the sump. Mine touched the downpipe recently and melted through

Part of that sounds like what happened to mine.

Smoke from the engine and running on 3. Mine turned out to be ringland faliure.

But having said that you've got oil down one side of the engine.

I also had this, the oil was dripping on my exhaust making it smoke, mine turned out to be oil feed pipe to turbo.

Hello mate. Heard about this yeaterday from Batty in the silver Evo.
Best thing to do is get a compression test done - wouldn't expect anything good though bud :-( .
If you have hardly any oil in as it's pi$$ed it all out, could be the HG has given way by one of the oil channels. Just so you know though, if a HG goes, the temp doesn't always rocket upwards - only if thw water is escaping.

If it makes you feel any better, my clutch gave up the ghost yesterday too. Couldn't have come at a worse time :-(

Shouldn't have gone, no. You only get mayo when water mixes with the oil. You said the water level was the same so don't think it is that.
No oil in the end of your exhaust?
Compression test it bud. Cracked block?

no oil in the exhaust, yer compression test gona have to be next check to do.
from i what i understand it can be piston rings going thats putting oil in air intake

but seems bit strange why got oil everywere, some people say thay have had the turbo to sump oil line burst

or turbo seals have gone,i think its gona be one of these 3 things

bet it is cracked block knowing my luck

Dude...if it was that easy, everyone would have one!
If it was turbo oil seals, I'm sure that there would be oil in the exhaust.

Were any pipes off?
Good luck though bud.
Oh and incidentially, I was chatting with the lad who works in the wine place around the corner from spar and he knows you...small world

Have you checked the pipes to see if they're blocked? Oil in the intake might be from the PCV but if it had to push past a blockage that may point to why one cylinder is rough (if the head has become pressurised)

I think... :-k

Best to get it checked by a pro.

Sorry to hear that mate. Doubt it would have been the HG, more the block as you've had the HG changed to a metal one.
Rogue are doing a good price on a Rev3 engine transplant...run higher boost then :-)

Is there any comeback on the HG - maybe it was installed wrong?

How hard is it to do a compression test ? is it something you can do for yourself ?
