Mobil 1's a pretty good oil, but there are better.

Motul or Silkolene are some of the preferred brands, Silkolene Pro-S 10-50 (ester based fully syn) being my choice

It won't knacker it, it might just allow it to wear slightly quicker than a super dooper oil.

According to Opies' write-up..

Mobil 1 15W-50 is formulated with SuperSyn, an extra high-viscosity synthetic fluid, plus extra anti-wear additive to provide extra protection for severe service applications. Mobil 1 15W-50 is recommended for high performance vehicles including turbocharged and supercharged engines where a thicker oil film is desired. Mobil 1 15W-50 is also recommended for older valve train designs that may benefit from a higher level of anti-wear normally not required for newer generation vehicles.

:-k

Back on topic...

Where is the CHEAPEST place for super-dooper oil?

TBH, I don't find Oilman too cheap before you say it!! Especially when you add £6 for postage...

Well we're probably talking small amounts either way, but having used Mobil 1 too, I found Silkolene to 'last longer' in that it didn't degrade as quickly as Mobil 1, in fact hardly at all.

I normally buy from Oilman but don't know where else to get it. If you counter in 10% discount it works out just over £35 for 5 litres, if you buy 2 x 5 litres at a time (Silkolene).

Hey i didnt mean that to sound like a statement everyone! jeeeesh! keep your wig (s) on!!!

I got my oils mixed up.. the oil im refering to was infact Castrol GTX as i recall hearing some oil expert say (and i could have sworn it was oilman) that the 'magnatec' feature of Castrol GTX is bad as it causes metal debris will stick to the cylinder walls , oil pathways etc in just the same way that the magnatec oil is designed to stick to the surfaces. Whereas on normal oil, any debris can flow to the filter and get filtered out!

also, when you change your oil -if using magnatec, a lot of 'magnetized' oil will remain on the internal surfaces, and on this oil will be debris. so an 'oil change' will be less effective.

ill research this as im 70% sure what i think i am saying is true.

On the other note... i love mobile 1 ...thats what i use! lol (just dont like the price! )

Well yeh that's the other way to do it :thumleft:

The reality is though that's its cheaper to buy the better stuff as you change it half as often but it doesn't cost twice the price. There's half the labour involved too.

Each to their own :thumleft:
